After a scoreless opening quarter, the Nittany Lions began to take control of the game, scoring 20 unanswered points. Purdue had several opportunities, but costly mistakes and missed chance haunted them all game long. Purdue kicker Chris Summers missed two field goals, one which would have given Purdue an early lead in the first quarter. A defensive game, the Penn State defense held the Boilermakers to well below their average yard output at only 241 yards. Penn State is now 6-0 for the 13th time under coach Joe Paterno.

Penn State PP's:

Bell, Chris WR 2010- DNP

Butler, Deon 5-10, 168, 3 WR 2009- Finished with 3 receptions for 39 yards. Very quick and shifty. Runs solid crisp routes. But man this guy is small. Listed at 168 pounds, but not even sure if he hits that. Awful blocker(understandibly) and it almost seems like DB's are taking hitting practice on him when he runs routes over the middle: B-

Devlin, Pat QB 2011-DNP

Evans, Maurice 6-2, 264, 48 DE 2010- Finished with 2 solo tackles. Has a nice array of moves to get around the offensive tackle. Needs to work on his arms, some plays he was simply dominated if he didn't outquick the tackle. Non-stop motor, and when he does get the edge, seems to always put immense pressure on the QB: B

Lawlor, Dan 6-2, 244, 33 FB 2009- Had one carry for no gain, but was great on the blocking side all game long. Great job of breaking down and hitting the defender low. Missed a few blocks, and doesn't have the best speed, but does what a fullback should do, block: B+

Lee, Sean LB 2009- DNP

Ohrnberger, Rich 6-2, 291, 64 OG 2009- Started at left guard. Looked a little small out there. Has good footwork and hands, but really seems to be outmatched at times. Needs to bulk up and and look for a possible move to center in his future: B-

Sales, Tyrell 6-2, 233, 46 LB 2009- Finished with 2 solo tackles. A very active and quick linebacker. Takes bad a angles at times and seems to overpursue. Also needs to work on shedding blockers better. Looked good in coverage, very fluid hips, and more than enough speed to keep up: C+

Scirrotto, Anthony 6-0, 192, 7 S 2009-Had 6 tackles(5 solos). A good looking athlete. Does a good job of wrapping up the ballcarrier. Sometimes looks for the big hit too much, and did miss 1 tackle because of this. Tries to tackle too high sometimes, but overall does a good job of getting low. Probably a little too slow and small to play full time in the NFL, but could be a great special teams player and a good backup: B+

Shipley, AQ 6-1, 297, 57 C 2009- Did a great job of opening up holes for runningback Evan Royster. Doesn't have the longest arms, but keeps them compact and on the defender. Quick first step allows him to keep the defender in front of him. A mid level prospect only due to size: A-

Szczerba, Andrew TE 2011- DNP

Wallace, A.J. CB 2010- DNP

Williams, Derrick 6-0, 194, 2 2009- The kid is finally all grown up. The former #1 recruit in the land is now a senior and boy has he matured. Led the team with 5 receptions for 52 yards and also racked up 7 yards rushing. Not his best statistical day, but looks to me to have all the intangibles to be a solid NFL WR. Speed is great, hands are good, the only thing he needs to work on is routes. Rounds them off at times, but otherwise a solid, but not spectacular day: B

Wisniewski, Stefan 6-3, 288, 61 OG 2011- Started at right guard. A very big tackle who looks to have a bright future ahead of him. Very unpolished and still has a lot of work to do on his footwork and quickness, but has good potential: C

Evan Royster racked up 194 all purpose yards, including 143 rush yards and 1 touchdown. Only a sophmore, but should be in the database.

Josh Hull 6-3, 231, 43, LB 2010 led the team with 11 solo tackles also deserves a writeup. Hits hard and is a sideline to sideline type of player. Plays both middle and outside linebacker.

Purdue PP's:

Heygood, Anthony 6-2, 230, 42 LB 2009- Finished with 4 tackles(2 solos). Big linebacker who uses his body to take on offensive linemen nicely. For some reason, was not able to get more tackles. Had a few missed tackles, needs to work on wrapping up and taking better angles to the ballcarrier: C

Magee, Alex 6-4, 291, 71 DT 2009- Finished with one assisted tackle. Really got manhandled along the line of scrimmage by Ohrnberger and Shipley. Does not have a go to move to remove himself of the blocker. Long arms do look like they could do him good on a field goal blocking team though: D

Orton, Greg 6-3, 199, 21 WR 2009- Led the team with 5 receptions for 43 yards. A nice big target for Painter to find. Not the fastest player around, but does have enough speed. Ran routes extremely well to the outside half of the field. Needs to acquire more polish: B-

Painter, Curtis 6-4, 230, 12 QB 2009- One of the most overrated quarterbacks I have ever seen. Finished a miserable 13-22, for only 112 yards, with one interception and no touchdowns. Has zero mobility and his balls looked extremely lacking of zip on saturday. To me, has no future in the NFL: F

Sester, Sean 6-7, 325, 74 OT 2009- Played in the game but did not start for whatever reason. Looks very polished and is a great run blocker, blocking with sheer power. Needs to do a better job getting low to block speedy pass rushers(but at 6-, this is a little more difficult). Has now started over 40 games in his Purdue career. Should get a good look in the middle rounds in April: B

Ryan Kerrigan is a sophomore DE that looks to have a very bright future. Purdue always seems to have good pass rushers every few years. He had 6 tackles(3 solos), 1 TFL, and one sack.

Purdue goes on the road to face a revamped Ohio State team, and the Nittany Lions travel to Madison to take on the Badgers in a night game.
