A brutal wind interfered with two offenses that were already anemic coming in (9th and 10th in the 10-team Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) and the result was a defensive struggle between two teams with at least two legitimate DII defenses. In the annual "Musket Game" between these two schools, Adams increased their all-time lead by one despite the best efforts of Fort's PP linebacker Mark Meng (6'0.5", 222). Very little to write about here. Meng was the only thing worth seeing, really. These teams have woeful defensive and offensive lines. Some top-notch FL and TX high school lines would blow these guys away.

SCOUTING SUMMARY:

College: Adams State Conference: Division II Columnist: Steve Martin

Josh Gibson 3 6' 1.4" 175 4.57 WR 2009: Decent size and pretty fast. OK routes and hands. Not worth more than a no-bonus UDFA offer. Bad day for anybody involved in the passing game to showcase their wares. Two catches...neither for any real distance. GRADE: Neutral

College: Fort Lewis Conference: Division II Columnist: Steve Martin

Mark Meng 44 6' 0.5" 222 4.66 LB 2009: This guy could play a level up and be just fine. But two levels? Not so sure about that...Very active MLB who projects outside. Exceptional reads. Reacts quickly. Run blitzes well. Leading the RMAC in both tackles and FFs, and had 13/1 in those categories with 2 TFLs today. Impressive effort. High energy. Just lacks pros size. Has the rest, but don't know if it can matter enough. GRADE: Slightly positive

OTHER NOTES:

Fort Lewis: Mike Rutte, Jr. WR might be OK, but I couldn't tell today. Same with big Jr. Dave Nieman (QB 6'4", 220) who did nothing but run the ball and/or stand in and wait to be sacked. Hard to tell what kind of passing skills he might have, but I suspect they aren't great given Fort's RMAC offensive rankings.

Adams: Nothing.

Could Meng put on 15-30 lbs and ba Mathisesque situational pass rusher? unsure.gif

I don't think so. His strength seems to be read & react, and defending the run. I didn't see anything like elite closing speed.
