TCU jumped out on top and used a solid game plan with blitzes and pressure that kept the BYU Oline guessing. The pressure came from all areas as they used 2 INTs to stop the vaunted BYU aerial attack. The loss means BYU is not longer a BCS possibility.

College: Texas Christian Conference: Mountain West Columnist: Brett Walker
Name # Ht Wt Speed Pos Class Game Notes
Aaron Brown 23 6' 1.0" 196 4.48 HB 2009
Scat back style RB. Very quick runner who always looks to bounce it outside. Nice pick and cut moves. Doesn't really run between the tackles very much and looks one dimensional. Had a big KR for 56 yards. Rushing 8/40 on the evening. Grade: Neutral

Jason Phillips 39 6' 1.0" 234 4.80 LB 2009
If you can have 10 tackles and call it quiet then this would be the night of Phillips. Didn't do anything of note to really stand out. No big plays or anything on the other side of the LOS. Grade: Neutral

Blake Schlueter 75 6' 2.0" 284 5.15 C 2009
Nice try hard C who is a bit on the smallish side for the pro level. Quick and gets good movement. Reminds me of former Fresno C Ryan Wendell. Has balance issues at times because he overextends. Will get into a camp. Snaps and quickly gets into his man. Grade: Slightly Positive

College: Brigham Young Conference: Mountain West Columnist: Brett Walker

Dallas Reynolds 65 6' 5.0" 328 5.25 C 2009
Gets push and turn on his man but has trouble anchoring. Had a bad snap. Has moved inside from OT. Not as quick as Schlueter but has better measurables. Needs to show he can drop his hips and stand his man up on a more consistent basis. Best shot may be to use his position flexibility and be a backup at several positions at the next level. Should get a camp call in the spring. Grade: Neutral

Dennis Pitta 32 6' 5.0" 230 4.80 TE 2010
8/84 and a nice safety valve TE. Not really used as a blocker and lines up in the Y position a lot. Good hands and settles into the zone. Is on the same page with his QB. Looks like he might have trouble against NFL style LBs getting separation. Grade: Positive

Austin Collie 9 6' 2.0" 212 4.50 WR 2010
6/116 and the favorite target of Max Hall. His numbers are impressive however, most of his catches were late in the game when the outcome was pretty much decided. He had a nice double move and gets most of his catches on out/ups and comeback routes. Had trouble getting going early but did come on strong. Grade: Positive

Max Hall 15 6' 1.0" 200 4.90 QB 2010
22/42 with 2 INT 0 TD. Locked in several times on his favorite targets and didn't look away the defenders. Scrambled for a TD. Works almost exclusively out of the shotgun with the exception being short yardage. Has escape ability but didn't do a good job feeling the rush. Needs to drill it sometimes instead of floating it. Has a weak arm and his accuracy wasn't very good tonight. I've seen him be absolutely spectacular and now below average. I think his ability lies somewhere in between. Grade: Negative

Harvey Unga 45 6' 0.0" 221 4.60 HB 2011
4/40 Receiving 14/53 Rushing. Good slip and slide ability for a big back. North/South style runner who can catch it out of the backfield. Has trouble when he has to go lateral or East/West. Grade: Positive

Jan Jorgensen 84 6' 3.0" 260 4.75 DE 2010
Almost had a pick on a shovel pass and showed outstanding athleticism as he bull rushed and made the pick only to have it fall out as he hit the ground. Sheds blockers and is able to get into the backfield. Had 8 tackles and a sack. Was the most impressive defender on either side by far. Looks to use a good motor, quickness, and power to get his work done. Isn't super quick or have strong power but is very good in all three areas. Grade: Positive

Fui Vakapuna 1 6' 1.0" 235 4.70 FB 2009
Had a fumble and is a big bull of a back. Short yardage specialist. 1/8 receiving and 3/4 rushing. Grade: Negative

Ray Feinga 76 6' 4.0" 348 5.25 OG 2009
Can ride his man and lock out. Pulls and hits his target. Needs to stick his blocks a tad longer. Got bullrushed and gave up a sack. Still a prospect worth getting another look at and needs to use his strength to his advantage at times. Grade: Slightly Negative

Travis Bright 74 6' 4.0" 313 5.20 OG 2009
Good punch and is the phone booth style OG. Gets drive and turn. Handles the spin move well. False start. Doesn't pull very often but acutally looked smoother than expected when he did. Needs to keep his head on a swivel a bit better. Should hear his name called late in April. Grade: Positive

Kellen Fowler 16 5' 11.0" 187 4.60 S 2009
6 tackles and was dragged into the end zone. Seems to arrive late over the top. Grade: Negative

David Tafuna 23 6' 1.0" 211 4.55 S 2009
SS who took on blockers when he should have been after the tackle not contact. Didn't really stand out in any way and I'm wondering who added this guy to the system?? 2 tackles on the evening. Grade: Negative

Game Notes: WR Jeremy Kerley SO was the one of the stars of the game. He runs the "WildFrog" of TCU and was 9/85 rushing with a TD. CB SR Rafael Priest I am going to keep and eye on. He had 5 tackles and a breakup and looked solid in coverage on the evening. RB Joseph Turner is taking away carries from Aaron Brown and with good reason. He's a big back who is solid running between the tackles. 19/70 Rushing 1/16 receiving. He's a JR. SO WR Jimmy Young was 4/78 with a TD and is a kid to keep an eye on.

This one is an absolute shocker to me. I never would have guessed TCU had this kind of coaching superiority, although I know BYU's coach is a young guy.

TCU obviously didn't do it with better personnel.

Kudos to them!
