The #10 Georgia Bulldogs came out of their homecoming game with a win but were made to work until late in the 4th quarter by a game Vanderbilt Commodores team. At the end of the first half and the 3rd quarter there were just 7 points in the matchup but Georgia had just about enough to see themselves home. Knowshon Moreno was a real workhorse for the Bulldogs with 172 rushing yards and a TD, while Freshman receiver AJ Green also had over 100 yards. Vandy #25 Jamie Graham had a 2 touchdown game and was responsible for all the 'Dores points.

Game Notes
Reshard Langford 33 6' 2.0" 220 4.50 S 2009
Langford looked like a nice big hitting strong safety. He looked good when blitzing and got some pressure on Stafford on occasions but he has a tendency to over pursue on running plays and ends up being a non-factor. Didn't do enough of a job today stopping the run. Grade: Slightly negative.

D.J. Moore 17 5' 10.0" 182 4.45 CB 2010
Is there anything this guy can't do? As a corner, he got beat up on a bit by AJ Green, who had an outstanding game. His coverage of Green was exceptional but Green somehow always found a way to come up with the ball. Solid tackler. Returns kicks and punts too and showed some elusiveness against a good Georgia special teams unit. Also came in at RB and WR on occasions and immediately drew a lot of attention from the defense. Grade: Positive.

George Smith 88 6' 3.0" 202 4.50 WR 2009
Playing in only his second game of the year, Smith failed to impress. Made only 2 catches for 27 yards though he did make a nice block on a corner to help his team get a 1st down. His height may persuade some team to chance on him, but he could do with working on his 40 if he wants to be drafted. Grade: Negative.

Game Notes
Brannan Southerland 36 6' 0.0" 240 4.60 FB 2009
Despite returning from injury, Southerland did not start. Seemed to be splitting time and was probably only on the field for something like 30% of his teams plays. Did make a few solid blocks to set up some good runs, but also missed a block on DJ Moore which stopped Moreno from being able to get in for a TD. Grade: Negative.

Jeff Owens 95 6' 3.0" 292 4.90 DT 2009
DNP - injured.

Matt Stafford 7 6' 3.0" 227 4.70 QB 2010
I came into this game expecting to be impressed and I just wasn't. Threw for 2 TDs but also 2 interceptions, one of which was on a deep throw while on the roll out...he just failed to set his feet despite having time to. The other was a throw released a little late and went too low and was tipped by the DT to a team mate. Has a very nice spiral and a nice strong arm, as shown by his 49 yard completion to AJ Green where the ball traveled the full distance. Shows a good ability to read the game and often changes things at the LoS. Has enough scrambling ability to avoid the rush. Grade: Neutral.

Mohamed Massaquoi 1 6' 2.0" 200 4.50 WR 2009
Finished this game with just 2 catches for 19 yards, though he did bring in a TD on a nice corner route which fooled the DB. Grade: Incomplete.

Knowshon Moreno 24 5' 10.3" 208 4.46 HB 2011
Moreno had 172 yards on 23 carries for over a 7ypc average on the day. He's strong, breaks tackles on a regular basis and cuts back really well. His vision his almost second to none. Likes to bounce it outside a lot. Seems to come off on the majority of 3rd downs, even though the one catch he was asked to make, he did...and picked up the 1st down. Grade: Positive.

Tripp Chandler 86 6' 5.0" 250 4.75 TE 2009
DNP - injured (shoulder)

Demiko Goodman 85 6' 2.0" 190 4.36 WR 2009
DNP

Jeremy Lomax 55 6' 4.0" 247 4.55 DE 2009
Lomax looked a solid tackling guy but doesn't give this defense much in terms of pass rush. His first step is really slow and he didn't look to be on the field on many Vanderbilt 3rd downs. Will probably need to switch to LB at the next level...if he makes it. Grade: Slightly negative.

Geno Atkins 56 6' 1.0" 290 4.99 DT 2010
Atkins packs a lot of power and gave the Vanderbilt offensive line trouble all day, getting good pressure on Mackenzi Adams in the process. Missed a chance of a sack by failing to wrap Adams up, but generally looked good today. Grade: Slightly positive.

Kade Weston 91 6' 5.0" 315 5.15 DT 2010
DNP

Dannell Ellerbe 33 6' 1.0" 235 4.60 LB 2009
DNP - injured (knee).

Rennie Curran 35 5' 11.0" 220 4.52 LB 2011
For a weakside linebacker, Curran really gets involved in the play. One of those guys who just buzzes around all day. Sure, he looks a little small but this guy is just a football player. Plays quick too. Grade: Positive.

C.J. Byrd 5 6' 2.0" 195 4.50 S 2009
Not tested too much today but showed glimpses of good coverage ability as well as being solid in run support. Grade: Incomplete.

Asher Allen 2 5' 10.0" 190 4.40 CB 2010
Allen looked like a very good cover corner today. He's a good tackler and made a nice hit on 4th down to stop Vandy from getting any further and effectively ending the game. Was called for a DPI penalty, but it looked very much like it should have been the other way round. Reminds me of a poor mans Leodis McKelvin. Grade: Slightly positive.

Ramarcus Brown 11 5' 11.0" 175 4.45 WR 2009
Came in for a couple of poor kick returns, but no other sightings. Grade: Incomplete.

Prince Miller 23 5' 8.0" 190 4.45 CB 2010
Not tested a lot today. Gave away a needless DPI penalty. Grade: Incomplete.

Clint Boling 60 6' 4.0" 286 5.20 OG 2011
Started today at LT and did a reasonable job, though he did look a little uncomfortable at times. Was moved inside later in the game and looked a bit better, especially in the run blocking game. Grade: Neutral.

Other Notes:
Georgia WR A.J. Green had over 100 yards and a TD. He looked very impressive on the day, comes in at 6'4 and made some spectacular catches where nobody else would have done.

Vanderbilt #25 Jamie Graham also looked like a playmaker, reeling in 2 TDs. Could he be the next Earl Bennett for the Commodores?

Excellent info!

Was Atkins teasing the Georgia linemen on the sidelines all afternoon, or what?...jk biggrin.gif Was he pressuring Stafford for his girlfriend's phone number?

Seriously though, I wonder if any senior QB is going to go in the top half of round one. Stafford looks the most like a potential franchise QB getting off the bus and when throwing deep, but he just hasn't distinguished himself.
PatriotofMaine
Oh, and P.S....I just can't get a feel for where Curran might/should be drafted. He seems to play great, then he gets dinged up. They are saying he's 230+ now, btw....

LOL...error corrected!

Stafford looks very good in spurts then lets himself down on occasions...he'd need a bit of time to settle in the NFL and get used to making the right decisions all the time. That said, if you need a QB you usually got to take one early.

As for Curran, I really have no idea. For starters...I'm not sure where he plays at the NFL level. I guess I'd give him a shot at one of the OLB spots first. Given that he plays WLB right now and the fact that there's not a high premium on those guys, I'd be thinking 3rd round. Having said that, if you draft him then...you just got a football player.

i keep watching georgia games to see that " okay he is #1" games but i just haven't. like CJS said he is good in spurts. he'll make one throw that maybe 2 qbs in the nfl can make then he dissapears for the rest of the drive. i think he has the potential but sanchez and bradford are really showcasing their arms every saturday.

I absolutely agree with that. There is definitely a franchise QB in him somewhere, but its going to need a good, patient coach to draw it out of him and stop from wandering mentally.
