what does everyone think about the 08 draft at the midpoint? how are the first rouners looking?anybody have a redo picks?

I think atlanta is getting the best bang for their buck. matt ryan is looking awesome and baker might be the best o-linemen of that draft. i think the chiefs are hurting the most. everyone gave them an A grade but dorsey and albert are non factors. i also think denver would get a higher grade eddie royal and jay cutler along with marshall have rebuilt the broncos passing game and ryan clady is a beast

I just know that Chris Long has been solid. He always gives it all on everyplay. He is also giving pressure on the Qb and early on was drawing double blocks when Little went down with an injury.

I also heard that dorsey has been a bust so far.

Sure, there have been some guys who have done better than others but this is the first 6 or 7 games of these guys careers we're talking about and a lot will change before the end of them. I mean, how had Tom Brady done in the first 7 games of his NFL career? You know...while its a load of fun to think they would, I can't think that any team would want to change its draft pick based on a handful of NFL games.

Give it 3 years, then look back at these guys. That's what I think anyway.

I think Jake Long is still the best Lineman out of the 08 draft. I'm still regretting the Lions grabbing Gosder Cherilus (an obvious bust, who just got benched for George Foster) instead of Rashard Mendenhall.

But isn't Mendenhall as much of a bust as Cherilus so far? I didn't love GC either, I woulda rather stayed put and picked up Albert.

Perhaps the new regime will figure out how to draft!! biggrin.gif
Mr. Knowitall
Well it looks like Mr. Knowitall may have made a bold prediction that will end up being right...Matt Forte looks like he will lead all rookies in rushing this season just like I said he would BEFORE he got drafted. smile.gif

A little too early to put any kind of grade on players from the '08 draft.

not individual players only but in terms of filling team needs especially with 1st rounders. now is the time playoff teams separate themselves. so you could say a team like dallas would have been better off getting a WR or S instead of overpaying for roy williams in next years draft
B_rent87
So far Ryan Clady has really looked the part of a top 15 Pick.

Chris Johnson all the way!

I think they should bring him in situations like the WIldcat Offense. train his hands an use him like Kordell Stewart/Brad Smith/Rande El in PIT

Bold? Well, okay, you made a prediction here that was correct. As for it's boldness, that's debatable...Forte was highly thought of.

However, Mr. Knowitall, I'd like you to expand a bit on your other predictions...the one you made concerning DE Derrick Harvy whom the Jags gave a small ransom in draft picks to select. That one does not look too good at the present time...of course, there's always next year.

I agree with you on Jake Long being the best o-lineman in the draft. He has it hands down. He is one of the main reasons this Miami team is doing so well this year. What I do not agree with you on is that Cherilus is a bust. He got benched for Foster once this season, only to take the starting spot back the next game. The reason he got benched, was because against Minnesota, he got bull rushed because he had too big of a gap to cover, Marinelli saw that, and he benched him. Foster went in and got bull rushed every play, but Marinelli still started him. Cherilus has not been getting enough credit. He has no help from the RG, and he has been handling DEs pretty well this season. In Week 2 against Green Bay, George Foster got dominated by Aaron Kampman, allowing 1.5 sacks and two tackles in only a half. Gosder Cherilus came in and Kampan acquired no stats, not even a QB hurry. Gosder is not a bust, but rather his efforts are being overshadowed by the poor performances going on around him. The other thing I have a problem with is that you wanted Mendenhall because you think Cherilus is a bust. Mendenhall has been out all season long. Kevin Smith was the much better option, and I am very happy the Lions did not take Mendenhall.

Yeah, alot of us jumped on Fortes bandwagon somewhere between CDS doing a jamal Lewis comaparrison to him and then draft.

But he wasn't on any radar for the longest time.

I don't agree at all with sam baker being the best o-lineman of this draft. I think Clady has only given up one sack all year, Jake Long gave up 3 bery eraly in the season and hasn't since.

That being said I have no idea how many sacks Baker has given up.

As a Bear fan I just hope Chris Williams isn't another first round goat blower for the Bears! sad.gif

Two different styles here. Clady is the better all around pass blocker, but he couldn't carry Long's jock as a run blocker...nor is he as smart a player. Both are good, it just depends on your style of play. For a pure passing team, which Denver has turned into, Clady is the better choice. But if I'm building a team, I also want to run the ball with authority, and Long gives you the ability to do that, as well as a pretty good pass blocker in his own right.

I think what was it a 5.5 avergae per carry to Clady's side means he can run block

I'll still take Long for the run game...and, if you stood the two next to each other, you'd never know Long weighs 330 lbs. He's really cut. You can never be sure in football, but long term, I like Long's build better for a long career.

It actually ended up:
Steve Slaton a 3rd rounder pick 26 for the Houston Texans 1282 yards
Matt Forte 1238 yards
but it was close

texans really got a jewel in slaton. if they build around him and johnson and they could be next years cardinals
jwest
I missed the boat entirely with Slaton. I thought he'd be a bust in the NFL, especially after he struggled so much in his final season at WVU.
