Alabama
14 John Parker Wilson QB 6’ 2” 213lbs 4.75 – Wilson impressed me in this game. I don’t think he’s a first round talent by any stretch, but he’s got some skills. Finished 16 of 25 for 219yds with 2 TDs and a pick. At first that pick looked like a bad throw by Wilson, but further review showed that the receiver was bumped off of his route. Looked poised. Moved well in the pocket. Showed a good but not great arm with nice touch and accuracy. His two TDs were perfectly thrown. There’s definitely something to work with here. Grade - positive
29 Terry Grant RB (soph) 5’ 10” 190lbs 4.45 – never saw him or heard his name or number called. Grade – incomplete
38 Glen Coffee RB (jr) 6’ 1” 197lbs 4.53 – totaled 13 carries for 62yds with a long of 14 and two catches for one yard with a long of 6yds. Did nothing dazzlingly impressive, but also did nothing glaringly negative. Did nothing to make me think he should declare early, certainly. A little small to be a feature back, but not fast or nifty enough to be a Dave Meggett / Eric Metcalf-type scatback. Would be valuable as a # 2 or 3 back who could give the bellcow man a breather on occasion. Lost a fumble, but Peria Jerry absolutely STUCK him when he did so, so I wouldn’t really say it was Coffee’s fault. Grade – slightly positive
9 Nikita Stover WR 6’ 0” 207lbs 4.40 – never saw him or heard his name or number called. Grade - incomplete
8 Julio Jones WR (fr) 6’ 4” 210lbs 4.49 – lot’s of potential here. Great size. Decent hands. Excellent concentration. Breaks tackles like an RB. Needs to learn how to beat the bump-and-run. Once he polishes off the finer points of the position, he could be great. Grade – very positive
88 Nick Walker TE 6’ 5” 255lbs 4.70 – Tide’s leading receiver for this game with 5 catches for 65yds with a long of 40. Didn’t see a lot out of him as a blocker. Big target. Nice speed for his size. Did drop a pass, but generally displayed good hands. I wouldn’t call him a blue-chipper, but I’m surprised I hadn’t heard more about him. Definitely worth drafting. Grade - positive
77 Charles Hoke TE 6’ 6.5” 255lbs 4.80 – no longer listed on the Tides’ roster. Grade – N/A
59 Antione Caldwell C 6’ 3” 295lbs 5.10 – I’ll be honest, I kinda forgot to keep an eye on Caldwell during the game. Smith caught my eye a LOT more, and, because he was dealing with Jerry, I focused on Davis a lot. However, neither sack by Ole Miss was given up by Caldwell, and the Tide ran pretty well all day, so I’ll assume Caldwell acquitted himself well. Grade – incomplete on account of the scout’s incompetence
71 Andre Smith OT (jr) 6’ 4.5” 348lbs 5.20 – easily the most impressive player of the game. Certainly should come out early and would deserve consideration as the top overall pick if he chooses to do so. Huge. Powerful. Athletic. Great balance. Never saw him on the ground. Aware. Strong hand punch. Never allowed anyone near the QB. Stoned Greg Hardy on the rare occasion they faced each other. The vast majority of the Tide’s rushing yardage was behind him. Grade – very, very positive
76 Marlon Davis OG 6’ 4” 290lbs 5.15 – up and down in this game. Faced Jerry throughout the game and while he sometimes kept the Rebel DT quiet, he also gave up a sack and a couple of TFLs to him. Was on the ground a bit. Not overly impressive in terms of size or power. Didn’t show much push in the running game. Did show some athleticism and ability to get downfield and block on the second level. Grade – slightly negative
93 Bobby Greenwood DE 6’ 4.5” 267lbs 4.75 – out of position as an LDE when the Tide is in their 3-4 defense. Build indicates he’d be more effective as a 4-3 RDE, but he also did not show great lateral movement or athleticism (got juked by the Ole Miss QB on one play and, even though he stayed at home, couldn’t make the play on a misdirection later in the game). Did beat Miller for a TFL and had a couple of batted passes. Gets by more on effort and awareness than raw physical ability. Backup at the next level. Grade – slightly negative
62 Terrence Cody DT (soph) 6’ 5” 365lbs 5.57 – doesn’t it figure? This is the guy I really wanted to see, and he gets injured mere minutes into the 3rd quarter. Based on what I saw, I understand the excitement about this player. I wouldn’t say he dominated, but the potential is obvious. Huge. Powerful. Moves well for his size. Constantly faced double-teams and clogged up the lanes and occupied blockers so his teammates could make plays. Lined up at FB and led the way for a goalline TD. Can dunk a basketball. Has lost a great deal of weight (once weighed over 400lbs). Grade – slightly positive
21 Prince Hall ILB (jr) 5’ 11” 255lbs 4.75 – backup. Had one assist. Grade - incomplete
25 Rolando McClain ILB (soph) 6’ 4” 249lbs 4.68 – lots of potential here. Great size. Good size / speed ratio. Can stuff the run, blitz, drop into coverage, and play special teams. The final stat line wasn’t all that impressive (2 solos, 2 assists, a hurry and a PBU), but I was constantly seeing his number and hearing his name. Keep an eye on this one. Grade - positive
28 Javier Arenas CB (jr) 5’ 9” 193lbs 4.38 – smaller than I’d like, but he has everything else I’d want in a corner. Very good speed. Very aware. Willing to be physical and support the run. Reads screens and misdirections well. Very good coverage skills. Gave up a TD, but his coverage was good on the play. Returns kicks and punts. Would be justified in turning pro early based on this game, and would go high if he did so. Grade - positive
49 Rashad Johnson FS 5’ 11.5” 187lbs 4.58 – plays bigger than his size and faster than his time. Led the team in tackles. Added a pick and a TFL. Forced a fumble, too. Contributed on special teams. Would appear to have it all but prototypical numbers for the position. Grade - positive
27 Justin Woodall SS 6’ 1” 220lbs 4.55 – great size. Good enough speed. Physical. Tackles well. Good coverage skills for the position. Had one pick and damn near had another. Baited the QB to get his interception. In this particular game, I thought he was more impressive than Johnson. Grade - positive
Mississippi
40 Mico McSwain HB 6’ 0” 203lbs 4.55 – no longer listed on the Rebels’ roster. Grade – N/A
25 Cordera Eason FB (jr) 5’ 9.5” 224lbs 4.70 – three carries for 6yds with a long of 4yds and no catches does not impress. Did nothing to make me think he should declare early. None of the Rebel backs were impressive, aside from Enrique Davis’ 62yd scamper, but Eason may have been the least impressive of the bunch. Eason’s now listed as and plays at TB, so I never saw him block. Played on KR team as an up man and had a return. Based on this game, I wouldn’t think he’s even worth drafting. Grade – very negative
2 Mike Wallace WR 6’ 0” 180lbs 4.38 – a starter at flanker in the Rebels’ three-WR sets. Only caught two balls for 24yds. Also returned four kicks for 87yds with a long of 41yds. Didn’t do anything exceptionally impressive, but also didn’t do anything poorly. Average size. Above-average speed. Decent hands and body control. Kick return skills are a plus. Looks like he’s worthy of a late second-day pick. Grade - neutral
79 Maurice Miller OT 6’ 4” 343lbs 5.36 – lined up at RG. Showed he could get downfield and block at the second level despite his bulk and his listed speed. Generally held his ground against Cody, though he often needed help. He did get beat by Greenwood on occasion. Looks like guard would be his best position in the NFL, though he looks like he’d be a pretty good one. Grade – slightly positive
74 Michael Oher 6’ 5” 325lbs 5.30 – not as impressive as Smith, and was going up against lesser opposition, but it’s clear to see why he’s so highly regarded. Huge. Athletic. Good balance. Strong. Aware. Never let anybody near the quarterback and held his own in the running game. Did nothing to convince me he does not deserve a first round grade. Grade - positive
86 Greg Hardy DE (jr) 6’ 5” 255lbs 4.70 – played sparingly due to a right foot injury and the fact that his preferred footwear, which helps alleviate the pain of the injury, wasn’t packed for the game, forcing him to have to have his foot re-taped quite often. Had a tackle, a TFL, and a sack. Lined up mostly at LDE when he was in the game, and forced some kind of pressure whenever he was in the game – unless he was lined up against Smith. Classic edge-rusher build: tall, lanky, long-armed. Looked at bit heavier than 255, but not in a bad way. Could probably even add more weight without losing any speed or explosiveness. Between his injury and the fact that the few times he was in the game his hand was on the ground I can’t tell if he could be a 3-4 OLB. Grade – slightly positive
39 Tim Bailey DE 6’ 2.5” 254lbs 4.80 – no longer listed on the Rebels’ roster. Grade – N/A
98 Peria Jerry DT 6’ 2” 290lbs 5.05 – the top senior DT in the country according to PFW’s Pro Prospect Preview. I saw him do good things in this game, but if he’s the top senior DT then the senior DT crop isn’t incredibly impressive this year. Finished the game with an impressive stat line: 3 solos, 4 assists, 2.5 TFLs, a sack, a forced fumble, and a hurry. However, he did most of his damage in the second half. He seemed to disappear for a long stretch. Granted, ‘Bama didn’t throw much, and when they ran, they often ran to the other side of the field, limiting his chances to make plays. Did display a lot of positive traits in flashes. Definitely a 4-3 DT, probably best-suited as an UT. I don’t know if I’d call him a first-rounder based on this game, but definitely a first day prospect. Grade - positive
94 Jessie Bowman DT 6’ 0.5” 315lbs 5.15 – no longer listed on the Rebels’ roster. Grade – N/A
13 Jamarca Sanford SS 5’ 10” 200lbs 4.45 – had minimal impact on the game, recording four solos and an assist. Didn’t really make an impression one way or the other. Grade - neutral
