Wisconsin was in control of the game for 59 minutes and 53 seconds, but when the final horn sounded, it was Michigan State who came out with the win. Spartan kicker Brett Swenson, kicked two kicks, 44 yards and 50 yards, in the last 5 minutes of the game, to erase an 11 point Wisconsin lead in the 4th quarter, including the game winner with just 7 seconds remaining. Michigan State was aided by 120 Wisconsin penalty yards(including 31 yards on one drive, and some questionable coaching calls by Brett Biliema(who is suddenly on the hot seat). The Badgers outgained the Spartans by 118 yards, and outrushed them by 256 yards, but at the end of the day, it was MSU players and fans celebrating.
Michigan State PP's:
Hoyer, Brian 6-3, 212, 7 4.85 QB 2009- Not really sure why this guy is in the database(maybe a little favoritism by Adam haha). He has above average arm strength, but his throws tend to sail on him and he misses even the easiest throws on occasion. Had to be frustrating for him, as his receivers dropped numerous passes. Finished 19-44 for 252 yards.
Does not look to me to be an NFL quarterback: D
Martin, Roland 6-5, 325, 73 5.15 OG 2009- Started but looked really poor. Allowed constant penetration through the middle which really limited a usually potent Spartan running attack. Did a better job on pass protection , but still nothing to write home about: C
Ringer, Javon 5-9, 200, 23 4.40 HB 2009- My heisman favorite coming into this game really had a tough time getting anything going. Finished with a season low 54 yards off 21 carries. He did manage to get two touchdowns, but both were from the 2 yard line, and he really worked hard to even get those in. Slippery guy, who has great vision, but really struggles to run with any sort of power, and also needs to avoid the negative runs: C
Wiley, Otis 6-2, 210, 21 4.50 S 2009- Finished with 7 tackles(6 solos). Really impressed me in coverage where he did not let any Badger receiver past him. The Badger receivers aren't hard to cover, but give credit to the MSU secondary for literally shutting them down: B+
Greg Jones and Dan Fortener both had really active games with 13 and 12 tackles respectively.
Wisconsin PP's:
Beckum, Travis 6-4, 219, 9 4.56 TE 2009- DNP out for year
Bscherer, Jake OT 2010- DNP
Carimi, Gabe OT 2011- Ruined an otherwise wonderful day with two boneheaded penalties, one holding and one false start, both times costing the Badgers a first down. It's amazing how undisciplined this Wisconsin offensive line is: B-
Casillas, Jonathan 6-2, 226, 2 LB 2009- Led the Badgers in tackles again with 10(2 solos), ho hum what else is new. Absolutely clogged the lane and was very instrumental in shutting down Javon Ringer. Made some good reads, and hit very hard, but got a little lazy on the goaline when Ringer was able to push them in: A-
Hill, P.J. 5-10, 236, 39 HB 2010- Finally came out and looked like the PJ Hill of old, rushing for 106 yards and a touchdown off 20 carries. Footwork looked good again and ran with good power. Still needs to learn how to finish off a run, and not stop and change directions in the middle of a run. Did not do a good job of picking up blitzes: B
Kemp, Andy 6-6, 315, 75 OG 2009- Had his best game in awhile and was actually the one offensive lineman without a penalty(I think at least, there were so many of them). Did a brilliant job pulling for John Clay on his touchdown run in the 4th quarter: B
Pressley, Chris FB 2009- Started at fullback but did not register a run or a reception. Blocked very well for 2 100 yard rushers, but still splits the position with Rentmeester: B
Shaughnessy, Matt 6-6, 253, 92 DE 2009- Had a very big game. Finished with 3 solo tackles, 1 sack, and 3 TFL. Absolutely blew up a running play taking out 3 blockers and still making the tackle. Showed me the quickness and reading ability to convince me that he could become a 3-4 LB/DE hybrid: B+
Urbik, Kraig OG 2009, VandenHeuvel, Eric OT 2009- I'm just gonna do one write for these players because they played very similar games. Good job blocking, BUT DON'T MAKE BONEHEADED PENALTIES. Ok now that I got that out, Urbik needs to finish his blocks better, and VandenHeuvel really needs to work on his first step which is really slow right now: C
John Clay had another big day with 111 yards and a touchdown off 14 carries. Garrett Graham led the team in catches with 6 for 68 yards with 1 touchdown. QB Sherer, seemed to regress in his 3rd start missing some incredibly easy throws, and also continually missed his reads.
The Spartans stay at home and host Purdue(who just won their first conference game saturday off a beautiful hook and ladder play, and the Badgers go on the road to face the Hoosiers of Indiana.
