SO QB Colin Kaepernick and SO RB Vai Taua combined for almost 400 yards rushing to dominate the Fresno defense and get a big win in the race for a WAC title.

College: Fresno State Conference: Western Athletic Columnist: Brett Walker
Name # Ht Wt Speed Pos Class Game Notes
Bear Pascoe 85 6' 4.0" 260 4.80 TE 2009
Not the best game for Pascoe. Had 5/45 receiving. Had a good day blocking. Had a huge fumble when he was fighting for more yards and had both hands on the ball and still got stripped. False start as well. Ran a nice cirlce route for a catch. Grade: Slightly Negative

Tom Brandstater 7 6' 4.0" 220 4.90 QB 2009
Another Fresno player who didn't have his best game. 23/43 260 2 TDs 2INTs. The second pick was absolutely boneheaded as he threw it right into the middle of the field with NV in zone. Has some mobility but only runs when needed. As I've stated before this kid has all the physical tools to play at the next level. However, he doesn't seem to be improving and imho seems to have reached his zenith. He'll definitely get into a camp and maybe drafted late. Grade: Slightly Negative

AJ Jefferson 28 5' 11.5" 180 4.40 CB 2010
Had 6 KO returns for 241 yards and a 92 yard return for a TD. Didn't really see much time on defense. Grade: Positive (Kick return grade only)

College: Nevada Conference: Western Athletic Columnist: Brett Walker
Name # Ht Wt Speed Pos Class Game Notes

Luke Lippincott 7 6' 1.0" 215 4.60 HB 2009
Did not play. Hurt in the 2nd game of the season.

Marko Mitchell 4 63' 0.0" 200 4.55 WR 2009
Looked very ordinary today. Probably because they were running it so well they didn't take any shots downfield. Had a drop and a bobble. Big 3rd down catch to pick up a first. Uses his body like a basketball player at times to keep the defender away. Grade: Neutral

Dominic Green 61 6' 3.0" 295 5.10 OG 2009
Looks his best when he pulls and gets out. A zone blocking scheme type player who is best when he has an angle and can use that to help him get movement and turn. Struggles when he has to take on a DT head on and can get pushed back. Quick. I think he definitely gets into a camp but may not have everything he needs to make a squad. Cut blocks with skill. Grade: Positive

Josh Mauga 30 6' 1.0" 245 4.70 LB 2009
Did not play.

Uche Anyanwyu 17 6' 3.0" 220 4.65 S 2009
Runs the alley well to stop the run. Pushes more than gets a good jam on the TE. Was solid in coverage all night. Had him down for 6 tackles and a forced fumble with recovery. Did a nice job on one particular play where he covered Pascoe on an out pattern. Grade: Positive

Game Notes: Kaepernick who was 17/120 2 TDs rushing and 7-17 128 1 TD passing. He has the arm, mobility, and size to make scouts drool. He needs to develop into a passer as he is still very raw as a QB, but has an incredible upside. Vai Taua is a short power plug type back who can make the cut and get positve yardage. He was a whopping 28/268 TD on the evening and set a Bulldog Stadium record for rushing. Segi Ajirotutu WR Fresno was 7 for 95 yards and is the best receiver for the Bulldogs. He's a JR. Note to self: Put in the following players for the 2009 season. Fresno, Ajirotutu, Lonyae Miller. NV, Kaepernick, Taua.

Do we have Pascoe ranked too high in the TE rankings?

Seems like maybe the same question should be added of Mitchell and Mauga.

Have you seen Mauga at all this year, Brett? Sorry if you've already reported him and I've forgotten...

I think Pascoe just had a bad game. Mitchell can be pretty electric at times. They just shredded them on the ground and didn't really need to throw. Mauga I have not seen yet. I've got some tapes from earlier in the year of NV I'll have to go to if I don't see them again. Off the top of my head I don't remember him from last year. I saw them a great deal last year.

OK...I'm moving him down until you tell me he deserves to go back up higher. #10 MLB seems high to me...

I'll agree to that.
