With the WAC having 3 bowl tie ins and several teams eligible for bowl bids this game was important for the 7th win for each club to give them priority over the 6 win clubs and go to a bowl game. Fresno took the ball out of the air late in the game and shoved it down the throat of the Spartans.

Fumble. Had one catch for 17 yards. Had a spectacular diving catch that was ruled incomplete. Got penetration on the FG unit and may have spooked the kicker as he missed a short FG. Strong in run blocking and really did a nice job setting the edge and opening holes. Grade: Neutral

Tom Brandstater 7 6' 4.0" 220 4.90 QB 2009
Absolutely stunk up the joint. Looks to have lost his confidence and mojo and doesn't know where to find it. Coach Pat Hill wisely took the ball out of the air and ran it down a tired SJSU team's throat. His stat line pretty much tells the story. 5 for 18 with one INT and 2 sacks. Grade: Negative

AJ Jefferson 28 5' 11.5" 180 4.50 CB 2010
Not playing much on defense. Hits the seam quickly on KR. Had one return for 37 yards. Needs to show he can play more on defense next year and show he is more than a one trick pony. Has the athletic skills, but NFL roster spots are very few for return men only. Grade: Neutral

Yonus Davis 34 5' 7.0" 180 4.60 HB 2009
Good shake and bake skills. Lacks the homerun speed you want, but looked all evening as if was on the verge of breaking one. Very good PR skills and is tough in space because he makes defenders miss. Has come back strong from a knee injury last year. Didn't really have good run lanes on the evening. Catches swing passes out in the flat and uses his shifty skills. Stuffed on a 4th down play. Receiving 4-24, Rushing 12-41, Punt returns, 5-50. The type of player who gets to camp and will have to make it on STs and his utility. Grade: Slightly Positive

Christopher Owens 29 5' 10.0" 170 4.50 CB 2009
One of the top CBs in the WAC. They didn't really go his way too often, but when they did he was solid. Had good coverage on Seji Uritutu, the best FSU WR. Hard hitter. Had a potential INT bounce right off his hands. Can run and mirror WRs. Got called for a hold when he didn't need to as he had excellent coverage. 4 tackles on the night. Projecting a 4-6 round selection. Grade: Positive

Kevin Jurovich 6 5' 11.5" 183 4.60 WR 2009
DNP out for the season with mono.

Jarron Gilbert 90 6' 5.0" 285 5.00 DT 2009
Penetrating DT. Can bore through blocks. Double teamed at times. Looks the part with long arms and strong upper body and muscular lower frame. More of a 4-3 DT than a 3-4 DE. Not as skilled at stacking and shedding blocks as you'd like for a 3-4 DE. Got pressure and caused the sack, as his pressure ran the QB into a DE. With his size and athletic skills could be coached up to play in either scheme. Needs to improve the point of attack and anchoring. Wore down in the 4th QTR. Will hear his name called in that 4-6 round area IMO. Could ascend with a strong post season. Grade: Slightly Positive

Game Notes: Carl Ihenacho SJSU JR is a very raw DT. He's only been playing football 4 years. He's just as impressive as Gilbert, if not more so. Gets good penetration and is tough to block......Duke Ihenacho is his brother and is a CB. He is also very impressive with strong ball skills and good coverage ability. He's a SO..... FSU DT Jon Monga played but did literally nothing. He didn't even record a tackle....The Ihenacho brothers will be put into our system for 2009 and scouted heavily.
