Now many people have hyped up players such as Andre Smith, Sam Bradford, Brian Orakpo, Matt Stafford, Michael Crabtree, and Malcolm Jenkins. It is almost certain that at least one of these players are going to be busts, while at least one will be headed to the Hall Of Fame. I have researched each of these players and evaluated them all very closely and here is who believe is going to be a bust, and who is the real deal:
Top 5 Real Deal Players
1.)Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss- Oher is the perfect offensive tackle in terms of size and quickness. He is the perfect size to help in the run game, and has the perfect quickness to dominate in pass blocking. He has had an amazing career at Ole Miss, and his one on Sunday's will be even better if his progress continues. He has played some amazing DE's and has faired very well against them. Look for this guy to be the Joe Thomas or Jake Long of this year's draft.
2.)Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech- Crabtree has had a college career like no other WR in college football has ever had. This season was his worst season statistically, but he still managed to rack up 1,400 yards, and 18 tds. He has amazing hands and great strength. He makes plays in the open field much like a YAC receiver, and he can get up for the high ball in the corner of the end zone. He reminds me much of Andre Johnson with his physical play and his great hands. This guy should have an amazing career no matter where he goes, even, do I dare say it; Oakland.
3.)Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State- When it comes to a great corner, Jenkins has shown every sign. He wraps up, attacks the ball carrier, and makes the play on the ball. Jenkins has all the tools to be great and there is not a doubt in my mind. He has shown us that he is able to play against big-time opponents and do well, and he has played great against elite QBs such as Chad Henne and Mark Sanchez. This guy is without a doubt a top 5 corner on Sundays.
4.)Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas- When it comes to a freak, Orakpo is the perfect example. He flies around gumpy OTs, and bull rushes the lightweight OTs. Orakpo has all the tools and in my mind is without a doubt the most NFL ready DE in this draft. Orakpo has played against some very good OTs and has downright dominated against them. He has amazing pass rushing technique and he uses it well. He gets to the QB in 3 seconds or less every time. When a QB closes his eyes to fall asleep at night, they just hope its the one time they can escape Orakpo, because it won't happen on the gridiron.
5.)Chris "Beanie" Wells, RB, Ohio State- Wells has had a career at Ohio State better than any other Ohio State RB since Eddie George. He has shown that for a big guy he has the home run speed while still maintaining his strength and tackle-breaking ability. He hits the hole hard and he seems to run angry. He runs as if he is a giant playing against a Pee Wee football team. Many people feel that he will be a Cedric Benson and will end up being a bust, in reality, this guy is like no other and had he not gotten injured earlier in the season, he may be in talks of being the first overall pick. This guy has one hell of a future at the next level as I don't see anybody tackling this beast.
Top 5 Bust Players
1.)Matt Stafford, QB, Georgia- Stafford has a great arm, but a great arm does not mean a great NFL QB. Stafford has trouble maintaining a consistent spiral, and has trouble throwing in a small window. He overthrows more often than not and he stares a receiver down too much. His accuracy is below average and the big plays that are made are great catches, or mismatches in the secondary. He has poor mobility and seems to have no ability to throw outside of the pocket. His style of play seems to be too much like Ryan Leaf's, minus the attitude. I wish the best for this guy, but I don't see the best for him.
2.)Andre Smith, OT, Alabama- You can argue with me all you want, but when you watch film on this guy, he is way too slow to be good in the NFL. Smith uses his size on smaller college DEs, but in the NFL, his size will not be as imposing, and his lack of quickness will stick out like a sore thumb. He could make a good guard, but being drafted as high as he will be, it is going to be a disappointment when a team expects him to be their LT of the future. Look for this guy to move around on the o-line, or be moving to the bench too soon.
3.)Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma- When you watch this guy, you are in awe, but when you analyze this guy, you think "What the hell". When I watch Bradford I think of how great he is, but when I analyze him, I see the little things that are going to kill him as an NFL QB. His throwing motion is more of a Colt Brennan-style than it is a Tom Brady-style. He seems to just have his receivers in the right place at the right time as they are always open or always saving him, making a big catch in heavy coverage. Bradford has had the luxury of playing behind a great o-line and is given way too much time to throw. He is very thin and hates to get hit. When he does get hit, it looks like he is going to get snapped in half. If this guy doesn't get the injury bug, he'll most likely end up having a Joey Harrington career. Must be that Heisman jinx.
4.)Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia- Moreno is a great college RB and will be just a great college RB. He doesn't have the home-run speed, nor does he have the size to be great on Sundays. He avoids contact and stops his feet on contact. He turns into a deer-in-headlights when a LB or S lines him up. He does not hit the hole hard, and does not get to the line quickly, but rather steps back before he goes forward. With this guy the mentality is all wrong, therefore, I don't see much of an NFL career coming from this guy.
5.)Pecy Harvin, WR/RB, Florida- Harvin is one of those guys that is going to spend too much time on IR to be a good NFL player. He seems to get hurt in the last few games of every season and it just goes to show that the schedule wears on him. He is listed at only 178 lbs. and could possibly weigh even less than that as Univerities love to make guys seem bigger than they really are (i.e. Desean Jackson, listed as 180 lbs. but only weighed 169). Harvin is going to need to take big hits in the NFL if he wants to be good, but unfortunately his body won't allow it. Look for this guy to be drafted soon and out of the league soon as well.
Now I hope this brings truth to the eyes of avid mock makers, while bringing much controversy at the same time. That is what a discussion is supposed to do, right? Write down whatever you think, short or long comment, I want to hear what you think and I want to prove to you who is the real deal and who is a bust. I will be looking forward to your comments.
