Best small school prospects for the 2009 NFL Draft

QB.
1. Rhett Bomar - Sam Houston State
2. Nathan Brown - Central Arkansas
3. Mike Reilly - Central Washington
4. Chris Pizzotti - Harvard
5. Ryan Perriloux - Jacksonville State*
6. Dominic Randolph - Holy Cross
7. Keith Null - West Texas A&M
8. Cole Bergquist - Montana
9. Billy Malone - Abilene Christian
10. Rodney Landers - James Madison
11. Cris Reisert - Ohio Dominican
12. Jake Phillips - William and Mary
13. Bobby Reid - Texas Southern
14. Zach Miller - Nebraska Omaha
15. Lance Kriesen - Northern Arizona

Pretty good list, except Bergquist is too high. Jason Boltus of Hartwick should be here at #2 or #3. Drew Willy of Buffalo should be here at #2 or #3. Liam Coen of UMass and Sean Schafer of Towson also should make the list ahead of all but the Top 12.

HB.
1. Javarris Williams - Tennessee State
2. Herb Donaldson - Illinois State
3. Branden Ore - West Liberty State
4. Corey Lewis - Northern Iowa
5. Rashad Jennings Liberty
6. Tyler Roehl - North Dakota State
7. Jerry Seymour - Glenville State
8. Bernard Scott - Abilene Christian
9. Jay Lucas - Southeastern Louisiana
10. Mike McLeod - Yale
11. Jordan Scott - Colgate
12. George Bell - Catawba
13. JT Rogan - San Diego

This list is flawed. It should go Jennings, B. Scott, Donaldson, Williams. Lewis is way too high. J. Scott is a junior. Frank Summers of UNLV is technically not small school, or Gartrell Johnson of CSU, but in terms of football talent, they may qualify as small school and would be highly ranked. Josh Vaughn of Richmond needs to be at about #8. Jhmal Fluellen, Demetrius Crawford and Ken Cornist belong late.

WR.
1. Ramses Barden - Cal Poly
2. Jeremy Gilchrist - Hampton
3. Johnny Knox - Abilene Christian
4. JaRon Harris - South Dakota State
5. Quinten Lawrence - McNeese State
6. Justin Brown - Hampton
7. Jamar Johnson - Norfolk State
8. Julius Williams - Ouachita Baptist
9. Ed Gant - North Alabama
10. Charly Martin - West Texas A&M
11. Terrance Butler - Presbyterian
12. Edward Thompson - Idaho State
13. TJ Courman - Appalachian State
14. Dominique Edison - Stephen F. Austin
15. John Matthews - San Diego
16. Bryant Eteuati - Weber State
17. Garrett Manning - Henderson State
18. Royce Winford - Augsburg
19. Brandon Rice - UC-Davis

Decent list. Brandon Rice deserves to be much higher. Courman doesn't really belong. Justin Brown is too high. You are missing some guys. Jason Chery of LA Lafayette (see Frank Summers and Gartrell Johnson) might qualify as "Small school" and would be near the top. Dudley Guice, Sekou Yansane, Tony Washington, JaJuan Spillman, Jon Davis, Chris Plum, Johnny Gray, Eddie Williams, Tommy Breaux, Andy Strickland and Elliott Mack could all be argued about.

TE
1. Brian Mandeville - Northeastern
2. Marquez Branson - Central Arkansas
3. Jared Bronson - Central Washington
4. Robbie Agnone - Delaware
5. Scott Sicko - New Hampshire
6. Ryan Chesla - Northern Colorado
7. Ian Jorgensen - Massachusetts
8. Jeremiah Wurzbacher - North Dakota State
9. Colin Cloherty - Brown
10. Brandon Bostick - Montana State
11. Gerald Stockdale - Alabama A&M

Sicko is a junior. Rest of the list is pretty good, although Mandeville has probably slid to third. Darius Hill at Ball State might be considered small school, and he'd be right near the top, if so. Zach Miller and Cory Garver belong.

OT
1. Cornelius Lewis - Tennessee State
2. Nick Hennessy - Colgate
3. Joel Bell - Furman
4. Tim Silver - Richmond
5. Raphael Nguti - Albany
6. Samuel Allen - Grand Valley State
7. Ben Coblyn - Massachusetts
8. Brent Russum - Montana
9. Adrian Brown - Delaware State
10. Derek Wooten - Wofford

Nguti should be #2 on this list, as it's currently constructed. Silver is so injury prone and had such a poor couple of final years, he's probably off most draft boards. Steve Valenta belongs here, as does Covington Wright and Kristopher Krempien. Coblyn doesn't deserve to be here. Paul Carpenter at Weber should replace him.

OG
1. Roger Allen - Missouri Western
2. Louis West - Henderson State
3. Dakarai Grimsley - Morgan State
4. William Giles - Tennessee-Chattanooga
5. Tim Henderson - Northwestern State
6. Dennis Conley - Hampton
7. JD Quinn - Montana
8. Eman Naghavi - McNeese State
9. Tom Pestock - Northwest Missouri State
10. Jonathan Compas - Cal-Davis

This is actually a very nice list, although Chaz Millard's omission is pretty glaring. Jacob Thornbrue is another guy you missed. Some might say David Berken of Rice qualifies--Rice is smaller than many DII schools.

C
1. Cecil Newton - Tennessee State
2. Jonathan St-Pierre - Illinois State
3. Brad Samsa - Youngstown State
4. Colin Dow - Montana
5. Scott Lemn - James Madison
6. Tommy Crowley - West Texas A&M
7. Raymond Harrison - South Carolina State

Maine's Ryan Canary, Cornell's Babak Motamedi and Stephen Field of Cal Poly deserve consideration here, especially Motamedi.

I may get back and comment on the defense a bit later....

DE
1. Brandon Swain - West Texas A&M
2. Lawrence Sidbury Jr - Richmond
3. Pierre Walters - Eastern Illinois
4. Joe Crawford - Tiffin
5. Kirby Griffin - California PA
6. Dexter Manley II - West Texas A&M
7. Mark Huygens - Northern Iowa
8. Louis Ellis - Shaw
9. Ataefiok Etukeren - Georgetown
10. Troy Pribnow - Wayne State

Louis Ellis is definitely a 4-3 DT, and would be rated high, probably #1.

DT
1. John Faletoese - UC-Davis
2. Sammie Lee Hill - Stillman
3. Jake Visser - Ferris State
4. Jovan Belcher - Maine
5. Eric Schroeder - South Dakota State
6. Desmond Bryant - Harvard
7. Andre Wright - Glenville State
8. Mychal Savage - Youngstown State
9. Mario Lane - Morehouse

Belcher is a 228-pound top OLB prospect. I have no idea what they were smoking calling him a DT.

OLB
1. Lee Robinson - Alcorn State
2. Jason Williams - Western Illinois
3. Pierre Banks - Appalachian State
4. Bobby Daly - Montana State
5. Jared Brock - West Texas A&M
7. Nathan Williams - Murray State
8. Marcellus Speaks - Jackson State

ILB
1. Alfred Williams - Alabama A&M
2. Redmond Willis - Tennessee State
3. Josh Mitchell - Charleston Southern
4. Andrew Schantz -Portland State
5. Desmond Hendricks - Rhodes College
6. Ramon Humber - North Dakota State
7. William Williams - Union
8. Shawn Melland - University of Mary
9. Tom Korte - Hillsdale

CB
1. Dominique Johnson - Jackson State
2. Ladarius Webb - Nicholls State
3. Jackie Bates - Hampton
4. Darren Banks - West Liberty State
5. DJ Clark - Idaho State
6. Sean Smalls - Massachusetts
7. Jarvis Richards - Youngstown State
8. Pete Ittersagen - Wheaton
9. Andrew Berry - Harvard
10. Kevin Gerard - Northern Arizona
11. Monterio James - Delta State
12. Don Carey - Norfolk State
13. Dominic Spinks - Delta State
14. Derek Cox - William and Mary

4. Colt Anderson - Montana
5. Chris Camacho - Tennessee-Chattanooga
6. Marcus Haywood - James Madison
7. Roderick Jones - Elizabeth City State
8. Kent Hicks - Liberty
9. Thomas Twitty - Furman
10. Salim Koroma - Villanova
11. Tyler Reed - Southwest Minnesota State

Swain over Sidbury and Falotoese over Sammie Lee Hill. Interesting. Very interesting. You've definitely made me want to read more.

Are you guys gonna put up info on Falo any time soon? Is he a bigg'un or a fastt'un?

Everette Pedescleaux is a guy who has grabbed my attention lately. I'll be paying a lot more attention to him leading up to the draft.

Willie Williams scares the heck out of me. I wouldn't have him on my draft board. I'd be very hesitant about Chris Baker too... he'd need very thorough background checks before I'd consider him.

I'm looking at the DT rankings. He's 18th, and his college is listed as MISC. There's no information inside the profile other than the template.

Am I looking in the wrong place?

He'll make a great story for ESPN to beat to death on Day 2 of the draft. I'm sure by the end of that Sunday we'll know his rap sheet better than the Florida District Attorney's Office.

Any GM who drafts and thereby commits any money to that kid needs to have their head examined. Invite him to camp, sure. If he makes the team, great. I'd still make him play at least two good, clean years before we even talked about a 2-year deal. Let alone anything longer.

I've got an interview lined up with Everette, if you want me to ask him any specific questions. I also just posted one with the #2 safety on those original rankings, Dre'Mail Hardin.

As for Willie Williams, he has unbelievable talent and there's no denying that. I probably wouldn't draft him either but if he is cleaned up for real this time he's going to be a hell of a player.

Pedescleaux has the potential to grow into a big Richard Seymour-like DE. I've been intrigued by him all season. Do you think I have him ranked too low, Jeff?

BP,

John Faletoese has a writeup where he belongs under Cal-Poly (Great West).

JP,

See if you can get accurate measurables and weight room numbers. Thanks, man!

In year where SIDs and ASIDs have treated pro day information like documents proving the The Merovingian Bloodline, Mike "Mex" Carey at Georgetown was able to provide workout data for Ataefiok Etukeren:
Bench Press [Max]- 405lb
Bench Press - 225 x 22 reps
Back Squat - 625 lbs
Power Clean - 345 lbs
Vertical Jump - 37.5"
Broad Jump - 10' 9"
Pro Agility - 4.17 sec
40 yd Dash - 4.52 sec
Height - 6' 2.5" Weight - 247 lbs
Ataefiok Etukeren is a college DE who is being looked at as a 3-4 OLB, he is very similar to Aaron Maybin, but he is more powerful. In practices for the Texas vs. The Nation game he showed he could handle blockers, use his hands to discard blockers and showed good instincts.

Career Totals in 32games include 82 assists 80 solo 20.5 TFL 8.5 Sacks, 4PBUs, the Falcons are working him out as a 4-3 OLB, I am going to try to set up an interview with him.

Impressive, and he did look good at the TvN Game, but he WAS the Hoyas defense last year and did this against Bucknell and Penn, Marist and Yale...and on a team that lost all but two games, while being outscored 250-96.
