i don't know what's going on here. now, i understand that all those guys, save for june, are in their 30's. i understand that the bucs, sometime, are going to have to retool, get younger, and there will be a bit of a downturn in the season record. i really am bracing myself now for a slew of 4-12 seasons.

but.....

why do this all at once? they're releasing 2 of their 3 starting linebackers, 2 receivers on what's not a very deep unit, and the most reliable halfback they had last season. you have graham coming off a season ending injury, and cadillac with that knee......i just don't know.

they have luke freakin' mccown at QB right now. and now they have too many issues to address in the draft that it's sickening.

they have $55 million in cap space, and i bet they don't spend very much of that, either.

i'm positive i'll follow up this post when i'm a little less confused about this. yes, again, i know they're old, but..........

Any team that runs a Cover 2 would be wise to pick up Brooks or June.

Bad move, don't get it. Releasing Brooks is almost like releasing Ray Lewis....their defense isn't going to look nearly as good as they did last year.

There is an article up on ESPN about it. They say that with Morris, they want a youth movement. Also they say that with new DC Bates they are getting rid of the Cover 2.

Man, this DOES NOT make sense for a team with $55 million in cap space. Are they trying to become the Florida Marlins of football?

..... you mean like a team that used to share a division with them? The Chicago Bears.

i get that they want to go with a youth movement. my issue is that it's all at one time. and getting rid of the cover 2 is ok, i guess (though i'm a fan of the cover 2). but, we have DBs that are tailored for the cover 2 (ronde barber, and i believe aqib talib was drafted with a cover 2 mentality) that it's going to take more than just a youth movement to get away from the cover 2. we're going to need more new personnel.

I agree. And I was reading somewhere else that the press conference when Brock announced officially that they'd been cut was really awkward and didn't give a clear impression of why this was done.

All I know is that my team needs two starting OLBs, and I'd LOVE to see either of those guys in a Falcons uni.

And either Cato June or Derrick Brooks replacing Keith Brooking at WLB would be a pretty significant upgrade.

ya know, now that i'm a couple days removed from this happening, i have this to say about this....

i think, from a business standpoint, it was probably the right decision to make. see what you have in your young guys. cut some pretty big salaries.

however......

the bucs weren't all that old to begin with. those guys would have been around one year, maybe two, and i don't think you can underestimate the value that a guy like derrick freakin' brooks would have on a team with two young linebackers in geno hayes and quincy black. the receiving corps looked terrible to being with, and got much worse with the dropping of galloway and hilliard. i hope graham and caddy stay healthy, or we get a HB in the draft, or dunn will be missed.

i will say, though, that because of these drops, THE WINSLOW TRADE MAKES NO SENSE!!!! you have a guy who runs his mouth, wants the ball all the time (and will tell you when he's not getting it enough), seemingly injured most of the time.....i just don't get it, especially for a 2nd rounder this season and a 5th next season. i think the only TE i would give that to, if i'm a team looking for a youth movement, would be a guy like witten. and, even then, with the needs of this team now, i would want to keep the picks and rebuild through the draft. that second round pick could have been for another DB for when barber is done. or a DE. or a DT so we could get that scrub hovan out of there. something. but now, we have that committed to a "me first" tight end, of all positions, when that should be one of the worries we don't even deal with right now.

i really hope the brass in tampa knows what they're doing. i'm not convinced right now as a fan that things are going in the right direction.
