So I am a Junior to be Senior at a high school in Indiana. I play quarterback and saftey and I have begun the recruiting process and man is it fun. Being a junior no schools are allowed to call me and talk to me on the phone yet but I have still had plenty of contact via email and mail. I have received numerous letters and emails from D3 and D2 schools but only Ball State and Northern Illinois have contacted in the D1. I went on a visit to NIU yesterday and man was it amazing, they have nice facilities with a new 15 million dollar football building; needless to say I came back very impressed. I go back May 31 for what they call a senior camp so they can see me throw and see me in coverage. Its not anything real serious yet but its still really cool. I was wondering on everybody elses experiences in this?

Thats great, congrats!

I personally haven't experienced anything like that. But my twin brothers are DE's at a D III college in chicago and both love college football. My folks live ten minutes from NIU and I live a half hour from campus also.

I would never try to steer you to pick a college, that is totally up to you.
BUT
I will say that one of my brothers is such a dedicated kid that he wouldn't leave his school for the Gators. But the other one would absolutely LOVE to transfer to NIU.

Its a good campus and a very nice surrounding area.

The only advice I can give is. My wife went on a full ride for track n field to Northern Iowa. She always tells people looking at colleges "you will know its the right school for you when you step on campus, its just up to you"

PS...Go to NIU wink.gif

I'm in pretty much the same boat right now, and I'm planning on going to a combine in about a month. I've been a WR my whole life but got moved to safety before the season last year, and I played on mostly special teams for one of the bigger 5-A schools in TX. Right now it looks like I'll be starting at S next fall and there's heavy competition for both spots. I've also received a couple of those mass-recruiting letters from some colleges that don't mean anything, but nothing special. That's cool though, good luck with everything man and keep me updated.

ok THANKS! I'm looking forward to it

Those aren't bad numbers for a young 175-pound guy at all. You'll be amazed how much a decent college weight-training facility will do for you.
daddy woz
that's great, man. i used to live about 10 minutes from NIU, and dekalb illinois is pretty nice.

what D2 schools are looking at you? when i moved to michigan from illinois, i ended up going to grand valley state. allendale, MI is a good location, nice campus, and between the beaches in grand haven and the city life of grand rapids. they've also won, what, 2 of the last 4 D2 NCs? i know it's something like that. so, if you've heard from GVSU, it's not a bad school to consider. but, like others, i'm not trying to sway you at all. just giving you personal experience from that school.

good luck man.

Looks great..plus a 4.2 GPA isnt bad.... I must say tho,,,that is a unique throwing style
bcdrama
If I were scouting you and I were at a DII school I could see you as a FS. If you can get to the 185-190 range and run in the 4.7s I am sure you'd at least get a partial.

What did the Valpo coach want you to change? I'd like to see a bit more velocity on the throws... too many (especially the short and intermediate outs) floated.

You didn't look slow on tape, so I was surprised when the video highlighted a 5.06 forty time (not that you should be bringing attention to a 40-time like that anyway).
Eagle-eye
I've seen a lot of D-2 games in the last three years (mainly in the GLIAC) and at 6'0 185 you would be very competitive as a FS/SS. Of course, everyone wants to be faster, and your tape didn't show that speed was a problem. Work to get that 40 under 4.7 and have a solid senior season and you'll be getting some significant attention.

I noticed on several of the running plays you took a couple steps pre-snap in anticipation of the play - which put you in great position to make the play. If that was because of something you noticed in the film, or a read you were able to get from someone, that is great, but if you were 'gambling' the play would be that way, that is a dangerous habit (and will set-you-up to get burned by a good offensive coordinator).

Great job on the grades, too - some students I have coached in HS now get almost as much in academic aid as they do athletic aid (all three of those guys play D-2).

Best of luck and have a great senior year!

When I was at their camp day he said he really liked my footwork and stuff but he said my delivery had a hitch in it, especially when im throwing to my left.

Im going to the University of Chicago tomorrow! One of the highest school's on my list. Even though they are a DIII school they are one of the best academic schools in the nation.

Ya, it is a AMAZING place. like bc said they had Amaos coaching for 40 years! They used to be part of the big ten, until they had a dean who disbanded the football team in 1939 because he thought having a top football team would threaten the academic standing of the university (which it does). They were a member of the Big Ten, it was Stagg who invented the Big Ten (he also invented the huddle, qb center exchange, statue of liberty, and etc.). They won 7 Big Ten titles during their tenure, which is more than IU, Michigan State and Penn State have to date!!

Then football was brought back in the60s as a small school program and they struggled for a long time until they got Coach Maloney in the 90s and he has made vast improvments to the program in his 15 + seasons...

haha basically this is a very quick and shortened summary of the recruiting presentation they gave...I love what I saw there and they really liked what they saw out of me,out of the 70 or so kids at their camp they took only 4 afterwards and I was one of them! We sat down and talked, they said how they are very interested in us and wanting us to become Maroons, it was very exciting. They are looking at me as more of a qb. I am very excited and really hope this school works out bc I would love to get a diploma from the U of Chicago!
jwest
Thanks Bill... I know, of course, that the U of Chicago had a football program, and also knew that it disbanded. I didn't know that they had reorganized and currently fielded a team.
bcdrama
I figured, but yes the Maroon have been back for several years and have had a few fringe prospects in the last 10 years. Here's their site- http://athletics.uchicago.edu/football/fb.htm

Haven't been on here in a while, haven't had the time. But, unfortunately, my team's season ended last Friday in the regional championship--only two games away from playing in Lucas Oil Stadium. sad.gif

But my season went really well and i surpassed many expectations. I just finished my highlight tape, and posted it on youtube enjoy.

As for my college search, nothing great yet. I have been in serious talks with University of Chicago, MIT, Wabash, and Valparaiso, with Valpo being the only D1 school. But, my coach thinks I will merit some serious interest from the Ivy League schools now that my season is over and they can see my film and sats. If not, I will end up playing at one of the aforementioned schools next year.

Wow man! Your SATs are that good? Congrats!

Those are some really good schools you're talking about there for sure--although I would never send one of my own to the UofC personally...but that's politics....

Sounds like you want to stay pretty close to home...or at least midwest?

What kind of stats did you put up this year and how DID your team actually end up doing?

Thanks for checking in and keeping us "in the loop!"

P.S. What field of study are you thinking about going into?

Why no DII schools on the list?

No my SATs aren't anything special, they are just above average so thanks to football I am able to get into those schools. I got a 2030 on the SAT, or a 1390. Ha, U of C is number one on my list...sorrry. Yes, but that was done unintentionally; it just happened that my list was narrowed down to all midwest/east coast. All the stats are in the first slide of my highlight tape, but if you didn't watch it...164/280 passing for 2331 yards with 28 passing tds to go with 7 rushing tds. Lol I like to brag about my kicking too, 2 field goals and 19 extra points and 31 punts for an average of 35 yards. My team finished 9-4, winning our first three playoff games. Noted: our only losses in the regular season were to schools bigger than us. We play a tough regular season schedule to prepare us for the playoffs. We are a 3A school and we lost to: Merrillville 28-14, 5A Regional Champion, Lowell 24-21, 4A Sate Finalist playing in Lucas Oil this Saturday, and Munster 19-14, 4A our conference champion.

Business, or if I go to University of Chicago economics. Well as you can tell I want to go to a school with great academic prestige. My coach is the one who contacted all these schools for me and he just never came to me with a school of my liking. Off the top of my head I can't really think of any great academic DII schools anyway.

Just checked out the highlight film... Very nice. Now tell the truth.. you didn't complete ALL of your passes, did you? Any negative plays at all? wink.gif

The kicking and punting is a nice surprise too.

I would love to start scouting you at one of the Ivies next fall.

You should take a look at DII Hillsdale (MI). They offer a very solid academic environment, as does Mercyhurst in PA. Hillsdale also has a real up-and-coming football program with two guys this year (OT Jared Veldheer and DE Drew Berube) with legit shots at being drafted next April.
