I'll update this first post as players are signed, released, traded, and drafted.
The biggest needs are on the defensive side of the ball. With the departure of 4 defensive starters (Brooking, Boley, Foxworth, and Milloy) from an already weak unit, we're at the point that the draft alone will not be sufficient to fill all the holes.
To begin with, positions that are not in need of depth or skill:
QB - I really don't understand Bulldog nation's love affair with DJ Shockley, but he seems to be a good sideline guy who's always got his head in the game. Matt Ryan's shown no durability problems, but Redman was pretty darn good as a starter a year ago.
HB - Turner and Norwood. I don't really have anything else to add to that.
FB - Ovie's solid, and Snelling played FB at Virginia.
WR - I'd like to put some Stickum on Roddy's hands, but he's a YAC beast. HD seems to be a great 3rd option, and I think Michael Jenkins is the most under rated player on the team. The only NFC reciever to have a higher 1st down % than Jenkins Last year was Steve Smith.
FS - Eric Coleman may not be the next Ronnie Lott, but he's solid, and he's under contract, which is more than can be said for most of the defensive depth chart.
Needs:
LB - Not only OLB, but also inside. There's no depth at this position, and other than Lofton, not a lot of skill.
CB - I loved Houston's game last year, and I think he's only going to get better. I'm not crazy about doing a Chevis Jackson experiement, but I'd be willing to listen to someone who's studied him more than I have.
SS - I was very disappointed with Milloy in '06 and '07, But as this season progressed, the coaching staff seemed to get better and better at using his strengths and hiding his weaknesses. (read: they brought him up in the box)
DT - Babs just got a 5 year extension, and Jamaal is being given one last chance as his backup. But depth at 3-technique doesn't mean we aren't desperate fore a Nose Tackle. I like Grady, and I think he can do his thing for another 16 games, but.... If we want to get better against the run, it all starts here.
DE - We just re-uped Davis, and he and and 55 should be a great combo.... but there's no depth.
