I'll put up the pros and cons of the two, that I think and I'll let you know which one I'd rather have.
Cutler
Pros:
1. Proven pro bowler at age 25
2. Has a good arm
3. Was drafted #11 overall a few years ago (less money than a projected 1st overall QB this year)
4. Carried his college team, can show leadership when needs to
Cons:
1. Appears to be "whiney" at times
2. We'd have to trade a lot or big picks/players to get him
3. Cutler has diabetes
4. He won't put up the same numbers in Detroit (fans will expect him to be the same guy when we have less weapons here)
5. He'll want a better contract (more money)
6. Cutler will more than likely be unhappy in Detroit
Stafford
Pros:
1. He's younger (being a rookie and all)
2. Has a good arm
3. Wants to be in Detroit
4. Wouldn't have to trade anything to aquire Stafford
5. Stafford's been prepping for the NFL since high school
6. Gets advice from the Mannings on a consistant basis (I think that's a plus anyway)
7. His college stats improved every year
8. Work ethic
Cons:
1. Accuracy
2. Had more weapons on his college team, will struggle early in NFL
3. Doesn't read defenses well
4. Won't be instantly effective
5. Is a hot/cold type of guy (when he's hot, he's hot but when he's cold, he's at the north pole)
Overall, I think if the Lions make a move to take one of these QBs, I would hope that they don't make the trade for Cutler and take Stafford #1 overall. We have too many holes to fill and I think most of the negatives for Stafford can be fixed. If I were the GM though, I would take OL with the first pick and build on the defense... take a QB next year (1st round).
It'll be interesting to see what plays out until draft day.
