I hope they aren't expecting him to run block much next year, that's all I'll say....

OUCH! Smith?! I think he's one of the most overrated prospects I'v ever seen. He went from unheard of to number 1 pick in what, 2 months? He played in a pass happy O, and never really run blocked. I cant wait to see Jared Allen vs him 2 times a year!

I wouldn't be surprised if Detroit is talking to Jason Smith about a contract, but I can't believe they won't talk to others before the draft too. They'll probably end up taking the player that agrees to the most team-friendly contract, especially since they have another 1st round pick to pay as well.

I kinda agree and disagree with RedRaider. I agree in that Jason Smith was not a big name before this season and he didn't really do much to show what he can do. I remember watching the Baylor/Nebraska game is fall and he didn't do anything that would say, thats the #1 pick in the draft. But maybe thats a good time from a LT. I'm going to disagree with you a little RedRaider on the fact of him not run blocking. Remember that their QB was Robert Griffen and they ran a lot of read option. I know that whatever team he ends up on is not going to run that, but he was still run blocking.

Well the Lions dont have to pull the wool over anyone's eyes seeing as no one will want to trade up to one so I guess this is beleivable.

Past ghosts of Harrington and Stanton haunting this team? Maybe they actually give Stanton a try this year? Well I don't agree with this pick, but it isn't a nice year to own numero uno anyways.

Ditto that. This isn't what, 1988 with Deon and Barry Sanders coming out. I'm forgetting a couple of studs too.

I think that the Lions will be talking with the top three candidates after their pro days/private workouts (Curry's pro day is today and Stafford's private workout with the Lions is the 31st). I do, however, think that they will eventually take Smith from Baylor and build in the trenches.
