HE was traded for a 6th and a swap of picks in an undisclosed round... He became expendable after they signed Jake Grove.. This is surprising to me, Satele is really good player

I loved him coming out of college but he really just didn't fit Sparano's system... He had a great rookie year if anyone remembers that, I really think the Raiders got a steal and he'll go on to be a solid starter for years in the league.

He's more of a technician, wheras Grove is a Parcells/Sparano mauler type with an attitude...kinda like the "old Raiders" of yesteryear were...you know...the ones who won SBs back in the 70's and early 80's. A good pickup, but you have to remember this if you think you got the best of the deal...you got what Parcells was getting rid of...after he took from you what he wanted.

From Stephen Tsai's Blog on the Honolulu Advertiser:

In what essentially became a swap of centers, a deal was finalized in which Samson Satele was traded from the Miami Dolphins to the Oakland Raiders for an undisclosed draft pick.
The trade actually was finalized the past Friday, but was not announced until last night.
"I'm happy," Satele told the Warrior Beat. "It's close to home. It's just a hop over the ocean."
Negotiations between the teams initiated shortly after center Jake Grove, the Raiders' starting center last year, signed a five-year, $29.5-million contract with the Dolphins. Of that, $14 million is guaranteed. Grove had met performance clauses that triggered an option allowing him to become a free agent.
That signing meant Satele, who has two years remaining on his first NFL contract, would have to move to guard.
Now, Satele will remain at his preferred position. He is the Raiders' No. 1 center.
"Samson is excited about the trade," agent Leo Goeas said. "He wanted to be some place where he would be appreciated. As soon as Jake Grove signed with the Dolphins, the Raiders wanted (Satele) at center."
Satele started every regular-season game in 2008 despite a torn labrum in his right (snapping) shoulder. During the postseason surgery, doctors discovered that there was a piece of bone that was broken off from the shoulder. A procedure was performed to correct that tear.
Goeas said the surgeries were successful, and Satele will be ready to play.
Satele will earn $460,000 in base salary this season, and $550,000 in 2010.
"When I got the call from the (Dolphins') GM, I thanked him," Satele said. "It's a business. They went one way. I'm happy to go to the Raiders. It's a fresh start."
