I am looking for a very happy bronco fan or a very unhappy bear fan.

As a bear fan I am personally happy with the trade (ok, lets be honest I am fricking ecstatic).

I personally don't think we gave up too much. Heres my reasoning why;

Jerry Angelo has not had great success in the first round. Out of the last 8 first round picks taken by the bears Tommie Harris is great win healthy, Greg Olson is good/solid and Chris Williams still has some time.

NFL QB is the hardest position to scout and draft in any sport period! it gets increasingly harder each year as the pool of college quarterbacks seem to get success from systems like Texas Tech, Hawaii, gimic offenses like Mizzou and Tim Tebow's jump pass play.

Cutler is difficult, whiny and a primadonna. Oh well, name a championship team that didn't need a difficult super talented athlete to win.

The broncos could easily spend a decade searching for a QB now.

Not to mention if Minn got Cutler we would have kissed the division good bye for a long time.

I wouldn't be surprised if Simms beats Orton out. I also wouldn't be surprised if Orton was mildly successful. Denver has two good OTs and two good young WRs.

Weather or not the bears gave up too much or denver is crazy for trading away a 25 year old pro bowler at the most important position in professional sports.

Its really a subjective discussion. I personally love the aggressive move as an organization and a real attempt at getting a QB and not just paying lip service to the concept

and who's to say that cutler will be that way in chicago? sure, he didn't handle this whole trade thing in the best way but maybe, just maybe, he'll be happy playing for the team he grew up rooting for. let's wait to reserve judgment before we give him the label of "prima donna" and "whiny crybaby" for the rest of his career. dude has plenty to time to shape that up.

also, how DARE you besmirch the greatness that is tim tebow and his jump pass.

The most important thing is that most Bears fans seem to like the move. I am happy for them!

I'm fine with the Bears trading away two first rounders....like you said they probably would have been busts anyways....but I wish they wouldn't have included a third rounder. But oh well at least we still have another third rounder anyways. Correct me if I'm wrong but the Bears traded away their third rounder, and not the comp third rounder.
daddy woz
you would be right, johanns. it is my understanding that comp picks can't be traded. so, it would have to be the "real" 3rd round pick.

When you have a franchis QB or a guy looking like he's going to be one (Cutler) you never trade him. Look at KC, they've gone 30 years trying to find someone to replace Len Dawson, ( I know they had an old Montana for a few years) and franchise QBs are so hard to find. The Steelers went 25 years between Bradshaw and Roethlisberger. It's painful as a fan to see them run out mediocre to horrible QBs. Cutler looks like he's going to be a franchise QB and in my book you take the chance. I don't think they paid too much. Now Denver will have a mediocre QB trying to play ball control. Once again, I think Chi. got over.

Yeah, to me its simple the bears filled the most important position in all of professional sports.

I know the Jimmy Johnson draft chart is not scripture but it is a good guide line.

2009 18th pick.................. 900
2010 1st round pick...........800 (i will assume the are better than this year but won't get carried away with my prediction)
2009 3rd..........................170
Kyle Orton (high second?)..500 (I don't know how you would value orton, and if bears fans are even thinking about orton then they are sick twisted and destined to be miserable)

We did get a 5th, but I am not going to split hairs, plus its just a 5th.

I was guessing a little high on the orton value and the bears first next year just to caution on the side of error.

That doesn't even add up close to the first overall pick. Now in an imaginary land if you could make Cutler, Rivers, Rodgers, Matt Ryan and even Carson Palmer available at this point in their careers to the lions at number one. It would be a no-brainer!

Not to mention the lions will be paying somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 million dollars to the first pick. Jay cutler is due 1 million this season. Lets not be naive though, Jay WILL be getting a new deal before the season starts. I am guessing somewhere around 6 years 70 million, or in that ballpark.

I would never argue something like this and say that I am right or someone else is wrong. Time will be the only judge on this trade. But as far as I see it the bears will be a better franchise the next decade for it and the broncos could struggle if they don't find a signal caller.
daddy woz
heard something interesting on 670 the score yesterday (i think during boers and bernstein), that cutler's contract was pretty front loaded. i guess in the first years of it (yes, i know he's only been in the league, what, 3 years?), he was paid upwards of $17 million of his initial contract.

i'm sure they'll get a new deal done soon. but, you can't really fault them for maybe playing out his rookie deal, either, at least for this season.

I don't mind it. Since he didn't wanna play here anymore, and he asked for a trade before McDaniels was even hired. They got good Comp, and I hate seeing a QB blame other people and not take accountability, and Cutler did this all the time. Good riddance to him. Kyle Orton with a fixed Defense should be solid. Hopefully it turns out good for both teams, and Cutler doesn't live up to his new persona as Jeff George Jr. wink.gif Either way, I am happy, I was pissed at first thought we threw away a thrid in this deal but got one instead, that's a swich , we would have had no 3rds if that part of the trade was true to 2 3rds, and I like that. Ryan Harris was picked in the 3rd. So either way I think both teams need to move on. Is Denver rebuilding? Yes. How far are they set back? Who knows. But they will be alright, and hopefully people like Champ Bailey can finally have someone in the lockerroom with a personality he likes, and the other players like.

LMAO, Lets hope Cutler stops holding Grudges.

In answer to your question are there any truly happy Bronco fans...

You'd have to be an idiot to say yes. Ya maybe some fans are happy to finally put this nightmarish situation behind us, but regardless none of this should've happened and really puts back our team many years.

Most Bronco fans are extremely upset with the trade and especially the whole situation. I, for one, am not looking forward to seeing Kyle Orton start at QB for us next year, but let's be honest this team has a lot more wholes than just QB.
