Full Version: Tyson Jackson going 3rd!?!
CDS Boards > General Access Boards > Discuss the Prospects for the 2009 Draft
ramsdraft1029
LSU DE/DT Tyson Jackson is by several reports the chiefs favorite prospects. Some are believing that the Chiefs are not afraid to reach and get Jackson. Others think they will trade down to take Jackson.

Several things that can confirm this report.

1. Jackson is like Richard Seymore, the patriot d-linemen who new president of the chiefs Scott Pioli has seen over the past couple of years.
2. Nearly every position is a need for the chiefs, so taking Jackson position wise wouldnt be a bad thing, especially for the 3-4 they plan on using next season.
3. A report that i will site below, claims the chiefs are now less likely to pick Aaron Curry at 3.
4. This can't be a screen cause Jackson isnt a top prospect, nobody else would trade up for him.

Against it
1. Jackson is a big reach at 3. So it would make more sense for the Chiefs to trade down.
2. The same report says the chiefs will take oline cause only Brandon Albert looks capible for them.
3. Who could pass up Curry.
4. Why would anyone pass up Curry and take Jackson

Denver would trade up for him. Peter King reported that he thought this could happen a couple of weeks ago. Any 3-4 team in the top 10 who's desperate for DE help is looking at Jackson. Green Bay, San Fransisco could jump if they like him enough, but more than likely this is simply a smoke screen.

If you remember, the Chiefs said the same thing about Brandon Albert last year (that they'd reach for him) and then ended up passing on him with their 4th overall pick, and later trading UP to get him from the pick they had acquired for Jared Allen. Most likely this is the same thing. News for the last two months has consistently said that the Chiefs are desperate to get out of the top 5.

It could also be (and this is purely speculation on top of an Internet rumor, so take it for that and that only) that the rumor that K.C. is interested in JaMaal Anderson from ATL. The trade rumor I read was Anderson and pick #24 for Glenn Dorsey. Showing interest in Jackson at #3 may be an attempt by the Scott Pioli to ratchett up the pressure on the Falcons IF a deal is being discussed.

It would be interesting if Jackson goes 3 tho, Every team wants out of the top 5 but its so hard to because of value and that teams dont want to give prospects top 5 money

Interesting, maybe. Gonna happen, no. The thing I didn't mention is the obscene amount of money the Chiefs would have invested in their 3 man defensive line if they take top 5 picks in consecutive years in that unit.

Again, if you buy into the rumor that Dorsey could be moved b/c he doesn't fit the new system and that Pioli wants to put getting the right personnel in KC uniforms on the fast track, then it's possible that they could look to sell Dorsey, but I think it would be impossible to find a buyer who'd pay full price. Dorsey didn't light up anything last season, and with more teams switching to the 3-4, 3-technique 4-3 DT isn't the Diamond encrusted pillar of gold they used to be.

I'd be willing to send them JaMaal Anderson and a 2nd, and that pick might be 2010 instead of this year, too. It's certainly not a trade Atlanta has to make.

If I'm KC I trade Dorsey for a second and chalk it up as a loss. They're starting from scratch anyway, who cares.
