During a recent interview with Lions G.M. Martin Mayhew, Mayhew may have let the people know in which way the Lions could be going number one overall. Check this out...
During the presser for the unveiling of the logo, fans were chanting for the Lions to take Aaron Curry. If you draft Stafford, doesn't that put him into an unfriendly environment?
"You talk about environment, that's something you find out about these guys before you select them. It's how they deal with things when they're not going well, whether it's Stafford or Curry or whoever it is. We've gone through that process with them so, if things aren't going well, we have a feeling for how those players might react. It could be any player, they could give up three sacks or something bad could happen ... how is that guy going to react? We've already asked that question.''
This may seem a bit confusing and you may be wondering why this shows that the Lions are going to go for Curry, but here is my analysis:
Last year, Curry went home to visit his family when to his shock, his family had been evicted. After that day, Curry had decided to stay his senior season at Wake Forest, passing up an opportunity to enter the draft, feeling that waiting another year would allow him to boost his stock so he was able to make more money to support his family. Curry did not only do that, Curry surpassed everybody else's play, and made himself the most coveted player in this year's draft. Curry showed drive, motivation, and the ability to overcome. The Lions need that kind of player, because after this last season, they have MUCH to overcome. Curry is the kind of guy Martin Mayhew not only wants, but he is the guy he needs. This is the fan's choice, as well as the organization's; He is the future.

Yes, but up until that little quote, it was never really apparent, all signs pointed to Stafford, and even though the Lions never really brought it up before. I'm not ruling out Stafford, but Curry sounds like the guy.

I think Curry and Patrick Willis' are very similar. They both have come from "Rags to Riches" stories and both have great personalities. If Curry turns out to have production like Willis (which I think he will), the Lions will kick themselves if they don't draft him.

I just don't see them taking curry at all. The only reason they might is if Jason Smith and Stafford's agent (they have the same agent) makes it difficult to sign an early team friendly deal. But even then, they should take Monroe.

There have been only two LBs ever selected with the overall No.1 draft pick. One, was Audra Bruce, by the Falcons, a total bust, and the other was Tom Cousineau (sp?), by the Bills, who was an okay player when healthy, but not the dominant force envisioned. If you don't take a QB No.1, the next positions that effect the game the most, are the offensive and defensive lines, and that will be the direction the Lions go if Stafford or Sanchez are not their choice...and it will likely be one of the two OTs. If you want a DL, the only one I would consider at No.1, would be Raji. I know I'll have a lot of people question that, but I honestly think he's money in the bank, unlike Dorsey, whom I thought was over-rated anyhow. All the DE's mentioned in the top 10 are really tweener types, more 3-4 DE/OLBs than true DE's, and Detroit can get someone like that most any time later in the draft, if they want a pure pass rush specialist. Curry is not the best talent, nor does he have the most potential or upside of anyone available in this draft, as many people mistakenly state. He is considered the "safest" pick, which is a completely different category altogether.

Here is where I'm seeing that Curry may just be the pick...
1.)The Lions have had Curry's agents in the whole week, and it is my understanding they are still in Detroit.
2.)The Lions have ZERO MLBs on the roster, and although one could be obtained with a later pick, it seems that the Lions are pretty sure that the guy they want will be there with whatever pick, and the only FOR SURE pick, is the first overall.
3.)Stafford said on the radio that the Lions have reached an agreement with a different player, than himself, leading me to believe it is Curry.
4.)Curry said that he would take LESS money than Jake Long did last year, and money was the main issue for Detroit.

I heard that Stafford said( i dont have a written source, i heard it on espn) that indeed the Lions have a deal somewhat in place with him and another prospect, my guess is that is Aaron Curry cause of the interview he had when he said t hat he will take less money then stafford/Jake Long.
But dont count out Jason Smith cause him and Stafford have the same agent so both could have simuler deals in place.
I still think that Stafford is the front runner
