CDS has announced that New Hampshire TE, Scott Sicko, has been named the CDS 2009 FCS Offensive Player of the Year. Scott has decent size (6'3"+ and 240+ pounds) and is first in catches for returning FCS tight ends (50) and second only to Yale's John Sheffield in catches per game, though he far outpaces the Bulldog product with both a 13.20 average per catch, and with his 7 TD catches.

Scott is a hard worker who takes the job seriously and has gotten better every year in Durham. Scott's profile is already up here at CDS, but you can also read more about him here:

http://www.unhwildcats.com/index.cfm?id=F8...647AF5DE5FC3BDA

Let me be the first to congratulate Scott on being selected the CDS 2009 FCS Offensive POTY, and let me get the ball rolling with a question:

Hey Scott, what are the areas of your game that you are focusing on for improvement this fall? Also, can you share any weight room or track-like numbers with us that you might remember?

Thanks! And WELCOME TO CDS, SCOTT!
ScottSicko
Right now over the summer i am focusing on put on healthy weight and on the blocking aspects of my game. I am still working to improve my catching ability but my major focuses are weight, blocking and route running. My numbers have all been improving over my career but my best imporvement was my power clean. I maxed out at 300 but I am hoping to improve on that.

Scott,

I know it's way, way early for this, but should you get a combine invitation, what would you think your ideal HT,WT and 40-time would be once you showed up in Indy?
jwest
Hey Scott... welcome to CDS! I always catch a few UNH games on TV as I see quite a bit of the Colonial Conference here in NJ.

Who are the players (past and present) at UNH that have really helped you become the player you are now?
ScottSicko
If I am lucky enough to get invited to the combine I would want my size to be at 6 foot 4 inches (I was just recently measured at that by a couple of scouting services) and I would want my wieght to between 247 and 253 lbs. I also would want my 40 to be somewhere between 4.65 and 4.70. As for players who have helped me at UNH through my career, i don't think it is possible for me to narrow that down. All of my teammates at UNH have helped me to better myself whether it is as a player or as a person. I have just been lucky enough to be around these people and have them as a part of my life.

Hey Scott,

Great to hear from you man! How much do you weigh right now, and what do you have in mind for weight room numbers for this coming season?

Also, how much blocking are you asked to do in your offensive system?

Also...I don't know if you've ever eaten at Wildcats Pizza, but if you're anywhere near there this summer, my daughter is working there this summer.

Scott, again congratulations, I am pleased to have you with us. As you have no doubt seen and heard there are now 2 types of TEs, those that that descend from Ditka, Mackey, Fred Arbanas, Billy Joe DuPree, Jean Fugett, J.V. Cain [the late], Dave Casper, Bennie Cunningham, Orson Mobely, Brent Jones all TEs who were good receivers but prided themselves on inline blocking-
And those that are more like: Shannon Sharpe, Tony Gonzales, Antonio Gates and recently drafted TE's/H-backs such as Chase Coffman or Zach Miller who is much like James Casey. Where do you see yourself and what TEs do you admire?

Scott: I have been lucky enough to have been able to see you play a few times as I covered the CAA through my coverage of the Hofstra program, since I am L.I. N.Y. Based. This year you were a little banged up and the rumor was you might not play, but play you did and even hurt you had an impressive showing with 4 recpts. Do you pride yourself on being able to play through Injury? And do you have any Comments on Northeastern and Hofstra Shutting down their programs?

I was able to catch up with Scott again this afternoon--he's been kinda busy the past few weeks, lol...and he should be on here again regularly soon to check his messages, so feel to fire away, boys.

Also, Scott will be joining us at 10:45 AM tomorrow morning on CDS radio, along with QB Trevor Harris of Edinboro, QB Cade Cooper of SUU, and not sure who all else....so tuned in or check out the archives Monday.

Hey Scott, given that the last game of your career was kind of a downer for you all, share with us what your immediate plans are as you are getting prepared for the NFL Combine, or pro days, the draft, etc. TIA...

I just want to start off by saying sorry for me not being able to respond lately. I have just been very busy with everything going on. I am glad to be back though. Right now I am training back in NY with a trainer. Right now I am focused on putting some weight on and increasing my strength without losing any speed. In early January I am going back to school to train with a trainer in Mass. I am really just trying to improve my weak points like strength and size without sacrificing speed or agility.

Well, I for one, just want to thank you, Scott, for taking the time to check in. I know how incredibly stressful this time of year is for a guy looking to move to the next level, and we here at CDS appreciate you updating us very much.

Did I hear you've picked an agent??

Out of all of those guys I see myself being more in the category of Tony Gonzales, Shannon Sharpe, and Dallas Clark. I think we have similar strengths. They are obliviously great TEs who have helped to change the position of tight end. I could only hope to be as good as one of them one day. As for players I admire. I usually don’t admire players for just their talent. What I find impressive in a player is when they have the ability to be great on the field and off the field. An example of this is Tony Hawk. His ability to be such an imposing presence on the field while still having time to participate in programs like play 60. There are obliviously many players who fall into this category, but I just think it is important for players to be good role models because I don’t think kids have enough of them these days.
