May 1st is a Saturday, so maybe the League thought that April 24th was too early and wanted to give teams another week to prepare? There's still the question of the format as well... will they start it during prime time on Friday night?
May 1st is essentially still in April haha but I don't see whats wrong with April 24th?
The NFL indicated that there is typically a 12-week period between the Super Bowl and the draft. The Super Bowl is fairly late this year, so that has "tentatively" pushed the draft to May 1. The NFL also said that the date is not set in stone.
