The USA junior national team defeated number 1 seed Canada, 41-3 at Canton's Fawcett Stadium on Sunday July 5. The IFAF Championship game concluded the 8 team tourney that began June 27. Teams included Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand and Sweden.

The US team was made-up of players that had completed their high school eligibility (all graduated seniors).

The US was the #2 seed behind Canada, since Canada had won the last 3 meetings - the US responded this year by allowing just 3 points in three games, and scoring 174. The US pounded France 78-0 and Mexico 55-0 enroute to meeting Canada in the final.

Great job, men!

Jay, if these guys were high school seniors that would make them college freshmen this season, right? Any top talents we'll be talking about 4 years from now?

Here's the link to the team roster (might be a good list to keep a hold of!) - the US put 14 players on the all-tournament team:

http://www.usafootball.com/jwc/tournament/team/us/roster

The guys listed from 'Players to Watch' on the USA Football site:

RB David Wilson - 5'11, 192- to Virginia Tech - named tourney MVP (425 yards and 8 TDs in 3 games - I saw one TD versus Mexico where he just ran over 4 would-be tacklers!); as a senior at Danville, VA, he rushed for 2291 yards and 35 TDs - a Rivals #4 RB - VA Gatorade Player of the Year

DT Chris Henderson - 6-3, 280 - to Texas A&M - led Dallas Carter to 12-1 record as senior

LB Storm Klein - 6-2, 225 - to Ohio State - picked-off first pass of the game against Canada and returned 16 yards to set-up first US TD - senior at Licking Valley (OH) ran for 6000+ yards and 99 TDs in career; Gatorade Player of the Year - will play LB at Ohio State.

OL Jack Mewhort - 6-6 285 - to Ohio State - dominating offensive lineman from Toledo St Johns - has played center, guard and tackle

LB Chris Norman - 6-2, 225 - to Michigan State - senior at Detroit Renaissance had 109 tackles and 6.5 sacks as Michigan AP Div 5-6 1st team; Rivals #6 OLB

You can go to the site and watch the games - fun stuff!

There seem to be some real "impact players" in this group - I hope coaches keep supporting Team USA in the future - could be a nice 'showcase' for future talent.
