If you play fantasy football, you're probably just starting to get geared up for the new season. The fantasy magazines are hitting the shelves... all of the internet services are starting to pimp their fantasy leagues... the prognosticators are offering their advice.

So, I'll jump right in and look at the Eagles personnel (draft position assumes 12-team redraft leagues):

QB - Donovan McNabb
He's clearly the starter on the team and looks to be a #1 fantasy QB. He's healthy, happy (new money), and has new weapons to play with. If he stays healthy for 16 games, he'll challenge for top 5 fantasy QB status. There are two big question marks with McNabb right now. The first involves the new offensive line. Some are calling it the top line in the league with the addition of Jason Peters (LT), Stacy Andrews (RG), and the return of Shawn Andrews (moving to RT?). It appears to be an outstanding run-blocking line, but how will they fare in pass-pro? How long will it take them to get in sync? The second issue is the health of Brian Westbrook. He's always been a safety valve for McNabb, who has developed an incredible rapport with him. Right now it looks like McNabb in the 5th-6th rounds, yet he should perform as well as guys going a full round or two earlier.

RB - Brian Westbrook / LeSean McCoy / Lorenzo Booker
The big question right now is Westbrook. He had recent ankle surgery and may not be ready until the regular season begins. He's always been a versatile player who racks up points as a runner and receiver and scores often. If he's healthy in 09, he'll be a borderline #1 RB. If he misses any time, he slips to a #2. Right now he's going in the middle of the second round. McCoy is an automatic handcuff if you take Westbrook, although he'll go earlier than you'd like for a handcuff (8th round area). He has a similar skill set as McNabb, but he'll be brought along slowly if Westbrook is healthy. Booker has almost no value in a redraft league. Don't be surprised if the Eagles sign a veteran back (a bigger back) before the season starts. This back will automatically supplant Booker as the #3 guy.

WR - DeSean Jackson / Kevin Curtis / Jeremy Maclin / Jason Avant / Hank Baskett / Reggie Brown
This will be an interesting position for the Eagles. Jackson comes off a great rookie season, although he may be hard-pressed to surpass his rookie numbers. Kevin Curtis is healthy again, and McNabb has a comfort level with him. He'll likely continue to be McNabb's #1 WR option. All signs point to a solid rookie season from Maclin, although it would be difficult to expect anything approaching Jackson's numbers from 08. After that, things get muddied a bit. Avant is clutch and will work the middle, so he'll get some looks. Baskett seems to be a better downfield blocker than receiver and Brown is likely gone by the end of training camp. None of the Eagles receivers should be considered a #1 guy. Jackson is getting the most fantasy love, with an ADP in the mid-fifth round. Curtis is a steal in the later rounds and could perform as a #2 FF WR. Maclin should be looked at as a #4 FF WR right now, although he's getting drafted higher than that.

TE - Brent Celek / Cornelius Ingram
Brent Celek appears poised for a breakout year in 2009, and many fantasy experts are predicting just that. He's a tremendous value right now, generally available after the 12th round. He has a chance to perform like a #1 FF TE, but the presence of the rookie, Ingram, might keep him from realizing those types of fantasy stats. Ingram is the better athlete/receiver and can stretch the field better, where Celek may be called on to be more of a blocking TE than in the past.

K - David Akers
Akers is getting up there in age and has shown signs of slowing down some. However, the Eagles' offense should be potent enough to get him some more PAT and FG attempts than in recent years. Take a chance on him as a mid- to lower-tier #1 FF PK.

Defense/Special Teams
The Eagles defense will likely be missing their coordinator, Jim Johnson, but I have more faith in Sean McDermott than most. The Eagles still need to show a consistent pass rush and have to identify a leader, but they've got the talent for another top 10 defensive year. The presence of return men like Jackson, Maclin, and Demps gives them an added boost. Draft them as a #1 FF defense and as a value pick after the 11th round.
