Sad day. Johnston was one hell of a defensive coordinator. Too bad cancer had to get the best of him.

Its also too bad that when one of the best DC's in the NFL passes away ESPN barely mentions it because they are too concerned about Brett Farve "supposively" staying retired.

Amen to that on both counts.

Johnson will be sorely missed in Philly. He was an innovative, risk-taking coordinator who loved the blitz. His aggressive defenses were always popular with Philadelphia fans, who love that type of defense. We've been blessed with some outstanding defensive minds during my time cheering for the Eagles: Marion "Swamp Fox" Campbell, Buddy Ryan, Bud Carson, Ray Rhodes, and Jim Johnson. Here's hoping that Sean McDermott is another in that line (and I think he will be).

RIP JJ.

Jeff, Johnson will be missed he's forgotten more football than most of us will ever know. What else do you know about McDermott's background, where did he coach before?

Actually, McDermott has spent his entire 10-year career with the Eagles. He played at William and Mary and then signed on with the Eagles as a scouting assistant after graduating. (He played at W&M too, WR or DB, don't remember which.) So everything he knows about football, he's learned from Jim Johnson.
