Next year's Defensive Tackle crop is going to be a great one. Ndamukong Suh and Gerald McCoy (JR) are top 5 talents in my mind, and Vince Oghobaase, Terrence Cody, Marvin Austin (JR), Arthur Jones, and Jared Odrick are potentially all first round guys. I just wanted to hear some opinions on how they stack up.

Here's how I see it:
1. McCoy: He looks like a Richard Seymour type player to me, great length and natural skills.
2. Suh: If he can stay healthy all season and dominate like last year he could be the 1st pick overall.
3. Oghobaase: Big, athletic guy that has played well with little talent around him.
4. A. Jones: Gets great penetration and makes plays in the backfield (30+ career TFL's)
5. Cody: Huge NT, should work on his conditioning and maybe lose some weight.
6. Austin: Loads of potential, needs to improve on last season.

I agree but don't shocked if Suh overtakes McCoy if he has a strong season and great off-season workouts. Odrick is another potential climber IMHO.

My rankings would be:

1. Suh
2. McCoy
3. Austin
4. Oghobaase
5. Jones
6. Cody

Suh and McCoy are 1A and 1B right now. Personally I think Suh is a more all around defensive tackle than McCoy. And Suh isn't as big of an injury risk as you think. He got hurt early in his career and hasn't had an injury in the past two seasons. I think that Cody is vastly overrated. Personally I think Ron Brace is a better NT than Cody will be. But for some reason many have Cody going in the top five.

But this position should produce probably two top fifteen picks and probably two or three more in the first round.

I agree that Cody's overrated but do you think there's any chance he last past pick #25? Could 7 DTs go in the 1st? I prefer Odrick to Cody, but that's just me. wink.gif

This will be an outstanding DT draft.

I like Suh the best of the bunch. The guy is just a playmaker with a motor. When a DT leads the team with total tackles, that tells you something about his ability.

Right now I'd rank them this way:

1. Suh (top overall pick - depending on team drafting)
2. McCoy (nearly a lock to declare early - top 7 pick)
3. Odrick (top 15)
4. Jones (top 20)
5. Cody (top 20 if he stays healthy this fall)
6. Oghobaase (top 30)
7. Austin (top 30)
8. Allen Bailey (athletic freak - borderline first rounder if he declares)
9. D'Anthony Smith (sleeper alert! - round 1/2 guy)
10. Mike Neal (another sleeper alert!)

Also, guys like DeMarcus Granger and Jeff Owens could sneak into the mix if they have very successful seasons after being injured in 2008.

(Some Juniors to watch... they could have big seasons and be tempted to declare: Stephen Paea, Oregon St; Jerrell Powe, Mississippi; Kenrick Ellis, Hampton; Akiem Hicks, LSU; Jarvis Jenkins, Clemson; Phil Taylor, Baylor)

As per usual I largely agree, and thanks for giving my HU kid some love wink.gif , I do think that Marvin Austin, DT North Carolina (Jr.) has a good chance to be a 15-20 pick if he has a big year and declares. He reportedly runs about 4.92, has good snap in his hips, is up to 306 with fairly low body fat, he is hot and cold, but if he puts it all together he could be in the top 2-3 DTs in college football.
