Just curious of what others think of Larry Asante S from Nebraska. He is 6'1 215lb strong safety that was a JUCO player with three years of eligibility when he came to Nebraska and started day 1 at the strong safety spot. He was highly touted coming to Nebraska and in my opinion bombed his first year. Then Bill Callahan was fired and Bo Pelini was brought in. Marvin Sanders (was at Nebraska and coached Josh and Daneil Bullocks) was brought in to coach the secondary and Asante seemed to play better. He was the second leading tackler (Ndamukong Suh was #1) ending the season with 67 tackles and one interception (1st of his career). This upcoming season he should improve yet again. I noticed he was ranked as the #6 strong safety here on CDS. I think if he continues to improve he could be a round 4-5 type of pick in the 2010 draft. Another note, this summer former Husker and Carolina Panther Mike Minter has been mentoring Asante. That can only be a good thing.

Here is his profile at the University of Nebraska.

I think fourth - fifth round next draft is an accurate prediction base on his physical tools. He didn't play as well last year as he did in 2007, but part of that stems from the fact that he suffered a nasty concussion early in the season and missed time as a result of lingering effects. Later in the season he seemed to react to and chase plays rather than playing with instincts, which might be a result of the concussion. Assuming he's healthy, I would expect him to rebound with a solid senior campaign and a decent grade heading into the draft.

He is a big, raw athlete with upside but he'll need a very soild season and great post season workouts to get above the 5th round, guys like Stuckey, Allen, Berry, Mays etc. are way ahead of him in terms of pro-readiness.
