WHY?!?!?

Jeff....?

Personally I think its a good move.

Vick isn't coming in to compete with McNabb, but more to complement him. It gives them another playmaker on offense.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Kolb get hurt?

Kolb is hurt and wasn't exactly pushing for membership in the Brady/Cassel Club for 2nd stringers with star potential even when healthy. It makes all kinds of sense for special packages, depth also Donovan and Vick have a decade plus friendship.

Also don't forget that Vick played in the West Coast Offense in Atlanta under Greg Knapp. Its been well publized that Knapp and Eagles OC Marty Morningway are good friends and basically run the same offense. So this could be an easy transition for Vick.

Can you imagine an offense with McNabb, Vick, Westbrook, Maclin, Jackson all on the field at the same time.

Marty Mornhinweg, a former quick little Montana and a backup quarterback for the Denver Dynamite in the Arena Football League, is a pretty creative offensive mind, I bet he's been studying the old films of some Single Wing plays where 2-3 guys handled the ball per play. The Notre Dame Box might make a comeback! laugh.gif

I really wanted to see Vick in the UFL for a 'tune-up' year, but this fit looks the best.

McNabb is vocal about telling the world "he wants Vick" so there should be little conflict on the team. He provides great 'insurance' for the Eagles (at least after his 6 games probation) for any dings/injuries to McNabb, as well as tremendous offensive verstaility.

Given he can get back in shape and the fans of Philly accept him, I think he is a bargain for the Eagles.

Sorry I didn't chime in earlier... things are crazy right now.

I think what Vick did is horrendous. He made a conscious decision to torture those dogs. I don't care if it was an "accepted" part of his culture, he knew it was wrong and that's why he took efforts to keep it hidden and even lied to the commish about it before he went to trial.

Now, he's served his time and I believe he has every right to try to earn a living again. I also have no doubts that Vick will walk the straight and narrow as long as he's playing professional football. He's surrounded himself with the right people.

My dilemma... I don't want him on the Eagles. I know it's hypocritical, especially in light of my statement about his right at a second chance above, but I personally cannot cheer for him. He may have paid his debt to society and all, but I still don't like him as a human being. I'm going to be very conflicted the first time he steps on the field with a green jersey on (especially with Jaworski's old number!).

As for the team, I guess it makes some sense because of the familiarity with the offense and his friendship with McNabb and Reid's desire to provide him with a father-figure -- one that Reid screwed up on with his own boys. But this is a team that kept assuring us that Kolb was the man to take over when McNabb was done. Kolb's injury isn't serious, so that should have played no part in the decision. Kolb is going to get pushed to 3rd string as the emergency QB and this cannot help him prepare to be the next face of the franchise. It also means that AJ Feeley is likely out the door with one of the cutdowns this summer. All that on top of the fact that I never liked Vick as a QB when he was in Atlanta. He's got a strong arm and absolutely no idea how to use it. He was only successful because he was running a wildcat offense before anyone knew what it was. Besides, DeSean Jackson is more than capable enough to run the wildcat for the Eagles should they choose to use it.

All-in-all, I would have preferred to see Vick in Oakland.
