Don't know if many people know much about Helu (pronounced Hey Lou) a 6'0 210lb junior running back at Nebraska. He rushed for 803 yards in 2008 sharing carries with Marlon Lucky (graduated) and Quintin Castille (dismissed from team and now at Northwestrn State LA). Now he is the featured running back for the Huskers and rushed for 157 yards in the first game against Florida Atlantic. He has had some injury issues, but all of them have been minor. He should be poised for a good junior season and could emerge much like Brandon Jackson did a couple of years ago.

Helu is certainly off to a nice start. He's a guy we'll have to keep our eyes on.

Hey Johanns... since you follow the Nebraska program, what can you tell me about Patrick Witt. He transferred to Yale and is the starting QB there now.

Witt was a talented quarterback the was brought in the Bill Callahan era. He never received any significant playing time at Nebraska but was the #2 QB last year backing up Joe Ganz. He was expected to compete with Zach Lee this past spring to for the starting quarterback position but ended up transfering to Yale to "persue academics." He is a very very smart person and if he was truely interested focusing more on academics then all the power to him. However it became knowledge here that him and his dad went to coach Pelini and asked him to name a starter before spring so if Witt didn't win the job he could transfer. Pelini didn't budge and Witt left for Yale. Other interesting note is that He played at four different high schools in four different years. And his family was not in the military. They started out in Georgia and then moved to Texas. He did transfer into the school that Matt Stafford was at to be the guy that followed in his foot steps, but it didn't work out there and was beat out by somebody else and then trasnfered.

He has a strong arm and is mobile enough. He ran for a touchdown in mop up duty against Oklahoma. Husker fans remember the most about him was that he came in for one play against Clemson in the Gator Bowl when Ganz got shooken up and he almost fumbled (knee was down just before the ball popped out) and that would have gave Clemson the ball inside the 20 with a chance to put the game away. I think he is very talented and could have a shot to make an NFL team, but I don't know if he really cares that much about football. But with his smarts, thats not necessarly a bad thing.

I don't know if you saw it but ESPN.com did a story on him and Andrew Hatch (former LSU QB and now at Harvard) about leaving BCS schools for the Ivy League. Witt was very critical of the Husker program and took some shots at in too.

Husker fans have moved on and wish him luck, but don't know if he has.
