...but they have something small to smile about in Junior Rutgers-transfer QB Chris Paul-Etienne, who put up a very nice day statistically 20-34, 206, 0/1 and showed he is the guy to lead the Rams this year and next for sure. UMass RB Tony Nelson (28-151-1) showed why he is considered one of the top backs in the FCS, and running behind possible NFL draft-pick LOT Vladimir DuCasse made his job easy all afternoon.
SCOUTING SUMMARY:
College: Massachusetts Conference: Colonial Athletic Columnist: Steve Martin
Game Notes
Josh Jennings 2 6' 0.0" 223 4.75 LB 2010: DNP. Injury
Tony Nelson 28 5' 9.6" 213 4.55 HB 2010: Fairly shifty. Likes to bounce it wide. Compact and runs the middle OK. Slasher. Has a stiff arm. Good 2nd effort guy, but sometimes goes down easier than you would like to see, especially in a crowd. Nothing special in the passing game or blitz pick up. Camp bubble guy right now. DuCasse and Samuda make him look a little better than he really is, probably. GRADE: Slightly positve
Josh Samuda 50 6' 2.2" 305 5.25 OG 2010: Decent run blocker. Choppy back pedal. Gives decent effort all game long but limited athletically. GRADE: Neutral
Vladimir DuCasse 72 6' 4.2" 315 5.40 OT 2010: Only surefire NFL prospect in this game. Stout. A wall in pass pro, especially if you try to bull rush him. Can be beaten by the inside counter move. Can get stronger up top. Nice PP drops. Can miss at the second level. Has some upside. A little shorter than you want. Might move inside? GRADE: Slightly positive
Scott Woodward 7 6' 2.2" 205 4.90 QB 2010: DNP
Victor Cruz 3 5' 11.1" 200 4.55 WR 2010: Average hands and overall skill package. May not even be 4.55. Coasts at times and gives less than 100% effort on some plays. Can break tackles after the catch and is a decent route runner. Nice FCS WR with limited pro potential. GRADE: Neutral
Jeremy Horne 8 6' 2.4" 190 4.50 WR 2010: INC. Didn't see him.
Jeromy Miles 5 6' 1.3" 215 4.60 S 2010: Nice size. Head hunter. Solid in run support and OK in coverage. Nice dual-threat safety who is know for making plays, and even big plays at times. Jumps routes and understands what the receiver is trying to do. May be the 2nd-best PP in this game. GRADE: Positive
Kyle Harrington 98 6' 3.0" 287 5.20 DT 2010: Good size and motor for this level. Limited athleticism. Lacks lateral COD. Penetrates and dominates on some pass plays, but the URI center is sub par. Camp body...maybe. GRADE: Neutral
Brandon Collier 56 6' 0.5" 285 5.10 DT 2010: Solid pursuit for a wide body. Stamina seems OK. Too short. Can be blocked and doesn't protect his legs. Best going forward. GRADE: Slightly negative
College: Rhode Island Conference: Colonial Athletic Columnist: Steve Martin
Game Notes
Shawn Leonard 13 6' 1.6" 210 4.70 WR 2010: Showed the ability to make the tough catch but also had a couple of easy drops. Lets the ball into his body. Fine route runner. 4.70 seems right for what I see on the field. GRADE: Neutral
Joe Bellini 83 5' 9.7" 195 4.60 WR 2010: Huge FR in the 4th quarter. Seems competent for this level in all phases. No wow factor or real upside here. GRADE: Neutral
Rodney Mitchell 3 5' 10.0" 190 4.60 S 2010: DNP
Robert Crudup 79 6' 2.0" 305 5.35 OG 2010: DNP
OTHER NOTES:
UMass: Their kicker was perfect on the day including a 42-yarder right down the middle. Guess Woodward just got beat out. Haven't heard anything else....
URI: QB #1 Chris Paul-Etienne, Jr. Nice stat line. Nice pocket presence, overall awareness, game management skills, decision making. Decent arm, and can really run if he has to, showing very good open field moves.
SS Jarrod Williams (#24, 6'1", 210, Jr.) flashed some. FB Anthony Farrar (FB, #44) showed really nice power running in the 4th quarter on URI's best-hope drive down to the UMass 5 down only 24-10. LB Rob Damon forced two fumbles and is a force for next year.
