What a game! It went back and forth the entire time and Miami eked out a win with a late TD run. The real story of this game was the emergence of the Hurricane's sophomore QB, Jacory Harris. He made big play after big play and seemingly willed Miami to the win. A number of excellent prospects were on display in this one.

Javarris James - 5 - 5' 11.0" - 214 - 4.50 - HB - 2010
James was held in check, for the most part, by the FSU defense. He's solidly built and runs that way. He shows good burst and hits the hole quickly. James is also a capable receiver, catching the ball smoothly. Didn't show any lingering effects of the ankle injury. I'd like to see James break a few more tackles. His TD run was an impressive display of quickness and power. (Grade: Slightly positive)

Matt Bosher - 25 - 6' 0.0" - 205 - 4.90 - K - 2011
Bosher didn't have a terribly impressive game. He had only one FG attempt, an 18-yarder, which he made. He also nailed all 5 extra points, which is expected from a Lou Groza candidate. Bosher also handles the punting duties and punted fairly well. His four punts went 44 (TB), 48 (FC @19), 38 (Down @2), and 35 (FC @), so he pinned the Seminoles deep twice and inside the 20 another time. The issue with Bosher right now is that his leg is getting overworked and his kickoffs have been atrocious. His longer kickoffs were line drives (56, 60, 65 yards) or those with any hang time were very short (31, 42, 42, 39). He also got called for a personal foul after a late hit. (Grade: Slightly negative with punts preventing a lower rating)

Orlando Franklin - 74 - 6' 7.0" - 320 - 5.35 - OG - 2011
Franklin is an impressive physical speciman, but an interior lineman with his size MUST do a better job of playing with leverage. Far too often Franklin got too upright out of his stance and got pushed around by the defensive linemen. He also gave up a sack and was called for a FS. Franklin is athletic enough to get to the second level and wreak some havoc there, but his footwork isn't smooth enough to allow him to move out to tackle where his size (length) would be a greater asset and less a hindrance. (Grade: Slightly negative)

Eric Moncur - 94 - 6' 2.0" - 250 - 4.75 - DE - 2010
DNP - Groin injury kept him home. Looking forward to seeing him return.

Darryl Sharpton - 50 - 5' 10.1" - 235 - 4.65 - LB - 2010
Meh... I can't say that I saw a whole lot from Sharpton. I think FSU ran the ball about 30 times and I only had Sharpton in on two-and-a-half tackles... and two of them were on pass plays. He needs to be a lot stouter at the POA. He seemed to diagnose plays well enough, but he'd run smack into the blocker and then allow himself to get taken out of the play. I didn't see enough urgency or fight in him. I don't recall seeing him do anything in the second half, especially with the game on the line. Hope he shows up next time. (Grade: Negative)

Graig Cooper - 2 - 6' 0.0" - 205 - 4.50 - HB - 2011
Cooper looked OK in this one. He scored twice (once on a short run and once on an acrobatic reception). On the TD reception, he lined up wide left and made a juggling catch after juking the defender off the route. Cooper appears to be a well rounded, athletic player. He made a real impact as a returner on special teams and had a couple nice catches. It's going to be hard to evaluate Cooper as a RB when he's only getting a half dozen carries. He has good quickness and an excellent burst. He's able to take a hit (as evidenced on his second KR) and keep going. (Grade: Slightly positive)

Jason Fox - 64 - 6' 7.0" - 315 - 5.20 - OT - 2010
Jason Fox impressed me in this one. He started off slowly, and even had an early FS penalty, but settled into a groove and played a solid game. Fox has good size and appears to have decent footwork. He plays with a nice knee bend, and uses his hands fairly well. Fox is a guy who could start to climb the draft boards this season if he continues to play well. (Grade: Positive)

Dedrick Epps - 18 - 6' 4.0" - 255 - 4.65 - TE - 2010
Epps was able to get open a couple times for decent gains, which was good to see since he's still less than a year off of his ACL injury. He's not much of a factor as an inline blocker though, and doesn't see the field as much as Richard Gordon on the clear running downs. He seemed to be moving pretty well. (Grade: Neutral)

Sam Shields - 9 - 6' 0.0" - 190 - 4.42 - CB - 2010
Shields is a converted WR who is now starting at corner for the Canes. He didn't look too out of place for his first game at corner. He showed decent recognition and made a few plays. He broke up a deep pass in the endzone near the end of the 4th quarter. He lined up about 10 yards off the receiver and stood flat-footed until the WR got to him. He then showed his athleticism and speed as he turned and stayed stride for stride with the WR. The ball was fairly well thrown and Shields showed no awareness of it, never turning to look for the ball, but just waving his arms in front of the receiver's face while the ball dropped right through the WR's breadbasket. He's a work in progress, but could play himself into a training camp next summer. (Grade: Neutral)

A.J. Trump - 70 - 6' 3.0" - 300 - 4.98 - C - 2010
Trump played fairly well for most of the night. He didn't really stand out, but he didn't do a whole lot to hurt the team either. For the most part, he was double-teaming a DT along with an OG, but when he was 1-on-1 with a DT, he lost a lot of those battles. He just doesn't appear to be strong enough to take on the big nasties on the d-line by himself. He doesn't anchor well and then has to start bending and lunging, which allows the stronger DTs to ragdoll him. Might be a camp body, but probably not draftable. (Grade: Slightly negative)

Others to watch: Junior DE Stephen Wesley (6030, 250) flashed some nice pass rush ability and athleticism a couple times. Not a regular, but a guy to watch for next year. Soph QB Jacory Harris (6030, 190) played an outstanding game. I was very impressed with how poised he was for a young QB. He still needs to make better decisions (take a sack instead of throw an INT), but he showed accuracy, recognition, and good athleticism. Senior FS Randy Phillips (6000, 210) looks like he's back and ready to make an impact. He was equally adept against the run and pass and even had the lone pick of Christian Ponder. The trio of receivers, soph Aldarius Johnson (6030, 215), junior Leonard Hankerson (6030, 215), and soph Travis Benjamin (5100, 175) all brought it. Hankerson and Johnson have nice size and Benjamin is a small, speedy playmaker. Junior SLB Colin McCarthy (6030, 242) is a lunchpail guy. Always around the ball and isn't afraid to get his hands dirty.

Myron Rolle - 3 - 6' 1.7" - 216 - 4.55 - S - 2010
DNP - Too busy researching a cure for cancer at Oxford to bother with a little rivalry game. wink.gif

Rodney Hudson - 62 - 6' 2.0" - 285 - 5.20 - OG - 2011
Plays guard the way it's supposed to be played. He's strong enough to engulf a DT on his own. He anchors well and uses leverage and hands to his advantage in pass pro. As a run defender, he's a mauler. He locks onto the defender and drives him. He moves fairly well and pull and slip to the second level, but his technique once there isn't as refined. On one play he went for a cut block and dropped a yard too early and the defender barely had to change course to avoid him. He's much better in a phone booth. (Grade: Positive)

Patrick Robinson - 21 - 5' 11.0" - 194 - 4.45 - CB - 2010
Played a fairly solid game, but he wasn't challenged too much. Got picked by the Umpire on a crossing route for a completion, but still made a nice open-field tackle on a larger player. Robinson isn't a physical player, he's more of a grab and pull kind of tackler. Even his lone tackle on a running play was evidence. Robinson got flagged for PI late in the third quarter on a questionable call, but the receiver had a step on Robinson and then had to come back for an underthrown ball. Robinson was out of position, but made a decent play on the ball anyway. (Grade: Neutral)

Ryan McMahon - 60 - 6' 3.0" - 285 - 5.10 - C - 2011
McMahon has nice technique and is clearly an athletic player. He battles, and he has to because his size and lack of upper body strength is a big disadvantage. When he's one on one in pass pro, he can get walked back to the QB, but generally uses nice leverage to give the QB enough time. He uses the cut block effectively and makes sure his guy goes down to the ground too. Has good athleticism and can get to the second level easily. He's a bit inconsistent as an open-field blocker. He's a bit hesitant in identifying and engaging a defender, but once he does, he is outstanding. (Grade: Slightly positive)

Dekoda Watson - 36 - 6' 2.0" - 226 - 4.50 - LB - 2010
Very impressive player. Plays even faster than the 4.5 time listed for him. Physical specimen who will climb the draft boards once he gets undressed and works out at the combine, although he may need to add some bulk to stand up to the NFL beating he'll take. He's more than just a pretty face though. He's a team leader and a very active player. He blitzes off the edge and gets to the QB in a hurry. He reads holes in the line and meets the runner head on. Best player on the FSU defense today. (Grade: Very positive)

Louis Givens - 89 - 5' 8.0" - 170 - 4.35 - WR - 2010
Very small and very fast. It seems every team has one of these guys now. Givens only saw the ball once, on a reverse, which he took for a first down, out-running defenders to the edge and then making a nifty shift along the sideline to avoid a tackler. In order to make it to the next level, however, he has to have return skills and he wasn't back for any punts/kicks in this one. (Grade: Incomplete)

Caz Piurowski - 81 - 6' 7.0" - 270 - 4.80 - TE - 2010 Big, physical TE who also shows nice hands and decent route-running ability. Reminds me a lot of Matt Spaeth of the Steelers. Big enough to handle the DEs and LBs on the edge while blocking in-line, and agile enough to handle blocking in space. Had a few catches in this one, including FSU's first TD grab of the season. (Grade: Positive)

Justin Mincey - 94 - 6' 5.0" - 272 - 4.85 - DT - 2010
DNP

Others to watch: Senior FS Jamie Robinson (6020, 188) flashed some skills in this one. Made a lot of tackles in run support and also broke up a pair of pass attempts. Soph WR Jarmon Fortson (6030, 223) is another of those big, strong receivers that were in abundance in this game. He's awfully quick for a big wideout, yet still displays the strength and power to create YAC. He's fearless across the middle.

PatriotofMaine
Hmmm...the guy who got the best grade from you isn't even on our radar really...not in the rankings yet, is he Jeff?

(I know your not the defense guy...)

Haven't had a chance to scout Watson yet.

Does he have pro potential then? Sounds like a riser...?
