Chip Kelly's spread offense got on track and QB Jeremiah Massoli ran it to perfection as the Oregon offense steamrolled Cal.

College: California Conference: Pacific 10 Columnist: Brett Walker
Name # Ht Wt Speed Pos Class Game Notes
Kevin Riley 13 6' 1.0" 224 4.80 QB 2011
12/31 123. Had a fumble, decent mobility as a QB. Misfires and doesn't put the ball on the money. Put the ball where his receiver has to work for it. Had a WR wide open deep and over threw the ball. Did see pressure, but did nothing to make the D back off. Stunk the joint up and was a very poor performance. Grade: Very Negative

Nyan Boateng 8 6' 1.0" 210 4.50 WR 2010
DNP Fractured foot. Has lost his starting job to Marvin Jones.

Jahvid Best 4 5' 9.0" 195 4.35 HB 2011
16/62 rushing, 2/14 receiving. Faced a full box and flashed the ability to make some runs. Was met in the backfield quickly more than once. This mediocre effort was more about the Oregon D than about Best's ability. Still a fantastic prospect in my opinion. Grade: Neutral

SydQuan Thompson 5 5' 9.5" 191 4.50 CB 2010
5 solos, 2 assists and wasn't really challenged through the air. Had a nice pass defensed on a post corner route. Made a nice leg tackle in space. Will mix it up and give run support. Grade: Positive

Tyson Alualu 44 6' 2.0" 295 5.00 DE 2010
5 solos, 3 assists, 2 TFL 1 sack. Outstanding motor and is able to chase and tackle. Plays 3-4 DE and gets doubled. Able to split blockers and get pressure. Able to string the play down the line. Big TFL on a 3rd down. Plays hard. Grade: Positive

Cameron Jordan 97 6' 3.0" 287 4.90 DT 2011
3 solos, 2 assists, 1 TFL, 2 sacks. Doubled at times and needs to disengage better from blockers. Strings the play down the line and is able to make the tackle. One of the few 3-4 college ends and could transition to the pros. A 4-3 DT in that D. Very good measurables. Grade: Positive

Mike Mohamed 18 6' 2.0" 237 4.75 LB 2011
Decent LB who has some activity. Doesn't make as many big plays as you would like from a 3-4 MLB. Makes sure tackles. 3 solos, 6 assists. Had a pass defensed. Grade: Slightly Positive

Bryan Anger 19 6' 2.0" 200 5.00 P 2011
CDS said, " Hey Bryan, your one of the top punters for 2011!" Bryan responds, "Shank you very much!" That is exactly what he did. 2 shanks, one for 5 yards and one for 33. Had 2 punts that he tried to pooch go into the endzone. Has a smooth leg swing when he gets into it. Doesn't have directional punting skills. 7 punts on the day for a 35 avg. and a long of 46. Grade: Very Negative

NaDerris Ward 52 6' 4.0" 266 4.80 OT 2010
DNP

TJ Ward 2 5' 10.0" 201 4.60 S 2010
DNP High ankle sprain.

LeGarrette Blount 9 6' 1.0" 240 4.55 HB 2010
DNP Suspended

Ed Dickson 83 6' 4.0" 243 4.80 TE 2010
The star of the show. Had 11/148 3 TDs. Caught everything thrown his way. Good speed and runs a lot of drag routes. The offense uses a lot of motion or clear outs and Dickson takes advantage. Very impressive for what he is asked to do. However, the offense allows him to get open using motion and clear outs. I'm not seeing him using route running abilities to get open. That's not his fault. May struggle at the next level like Chase Coffman has learning the pro game responsibilities of a TE. Will try to make a block, but is not his forte. Overall, one heck of a day by Dickson. Grade; Very Positive

Walter Thurmond 6 5' 11.0" 180 4.55 CB 2010
Left game early in the first quarter after a fumble on a KOR. Grade: Incomplete

Will Tukuafu 39 6' 3.0" 272 5.00 DE 2010
Active player but didn't record a tackle. Noticed his presence though. Had a few pressures on the QB. Grade: Slightly Negative

Game Notes: OR JR LB Casey Mathews had 4 total tackles....OR JR LB Kenny Rowe flashed with 2 sacks, FF, and a QBH....OR FR RB LaMichael James had 21/121 1 TD.....Cal SR WR Verran Tucker has 3/71 receiving, but showed immaturity with a taunt during a PI. Close to earning a CDS shell. He's a JC transfer.

And I honestly thought that Cal was going to the national championship game this year. Cal better step it up for next week, as Best only having 55 rushing yards against Oregon doesn't bode well against a far superior USC run defense.
