Cal (3-2, 2-0) hosted Clarion (2-3, 1-1) in this rainy, topsy-turvy game. Cal led 21 to 10, but three straight Clarion scores put the Eagles up 25-21 - there were 7 lead changes before Cal QB Josh Portis hit sophomore WR Chedrick Cherry on a 47-yard TD pass to win the game with just 1:01 to play.

Terrence Johnson 15 5' 11.2" 195 4.60 S 2010
Led team with 6 tackles (5 solo) and two pass break-ups - decent size for the next level; runs well in support of the run - great tackle of Hoggard to prevent first down in the last Clarion possession. Averaging 27.7 yards per KO return - Clarion kicked away from him. Could definitely play as practice squad player; possibly CFL/UFL.
GRADE: SLIGHTLY POSITIVE
A.J. Jackson 8 6' 6.0" 225 4.60 WR 2010
Caught 5 passes for 41 yards and 1 TD - has caught at least 1 TD in all 5 games this season (team leader in catches, yards and TDs). Good height and speed combination - good downfield blocking - makes good contact and maintains it. Decent routes and good hands - could be worth 'taking a chance' on with a camp invitation.
GRADE: POSITIVE
Freddie Bacco 27 5' 11.0" 220 4.60 HB 2010
First player to break the 100 yard barrier this season for Cal - 20 carries for 114 yards and 1 TD run of 8 yards. Strong runner - speed is okay (has a 33-yard KO return) - moves laterally okay - a good performance considering how 'inspired' Clarion defenders played. Decent pass blocker - does his job. Practice squad caliber player; perhaps UFL/CFL material.
GRADE: SLIGHTLY POSITIVE
Derek Fiorenza 39 5' 8.0" 155 0.00 P 2010
Only two punts today, but Fiorenza hit a 40-yarder, and got a FC at the Clarion 15 late in the 3rd quarter. He's averaging 40.1 for the season with 5 of 17 inside the 20 this season.
GRADE: POSITIVE
Dominique Curry 7 6' 4.0" 220 4.55 WR 2010 - Did not play
GRADE: INCOMPLETE
Dontey Brown 52 6' 1.6" 235 4.75 LB 2010
Had 4 tackles (2 solo) in the game - as team leading tackler (he's averaging 8 per game) I expected more from him today. He has good speed at this level, but may be a tad small to play ILB in the NFL.
GRADE: NEUTRAL
Josh Portis 12 6' 3.1" 222 4.45 QB 2010
Has thrown 11 TDs with no interceptions in the last 10 quarters. For this game, Portis was 13-23 for 201 yards and 3 TDs; he also ran 8 times and averaged 4.1 yards per carry (including 3 sacks). He seems to be settling into the offense (of course, the level of competition in the last 3 games has been less than the first two) and is making good decisions. On the negative side, he fumbled late in the 3rd which led to a Clarion score. Still mostly raw talent ... will be interesting to see how the season develops (next week will be a tough game at big rival Indiana U-PA).

College: Clarion Conference: Division II Columnist: Staff
Matt Foradora 10 6' 5.0" 250 4.90 TE 2010
Foradora caught 6 for 70 yards and a 21-yard TD. He probably lacks the overall size/speed to play TE at the next level, but showed good fundamentals in blocking and receiving.
GRADE: POSITIVE
John Kalchthaler 70 6' 2.0" 280 5.00 C 2010
Kalchthaler played well - engaged opponents and maintained contact - but speed/quickness not there for the next level.
GRADE: NEUTRAL
Chris Kincaid 68 6' 5.0" 280 5.00 OT 2010
Overall height/mass would need to improve for next level - decent footwork; pass blocking okay. On run blocking a little slow getting to the next level.
GRADE: NEUTRAL
GAME NOTES: Clarion WR Jacques Robinson had 9 catches for 123 yards and a 44-yard TD - the 6-3, 180 pound junior has 37 catches for 472 yards and 3 TDs this season ... Cal WR Cherry had 4 KO returns for 128 yards including a 54-yarder that almost went all the way ... Cal junior WR Terrance Moore led the Vulcans with 5 catches for 84 yards and 2 TDs.
This week Cal travels to IUP to meet the Crimson Hawks for the 82nd time in their storied rivalry, while Clarion hosts Gannon.
