This was a punt fest in the first half between two Connecticut based NEC schools, and the winless Pioneers of Sacred Heart actually played very, very well on defense for 2+ quarters today, leading 12-0 at the half, before succumbing to a 101-yard int. return for a TD by one of the two legit PPs in this game--CCSU's CB Marcus Dorsey (#8, 6'0.1", 173). That TD came with Sacred Heart vying to go up 18-12 on a 3rd and goal from the CCSU 5-yard line. That followed a dropped snap on the punt by the SHU punter at their own 10 moments before that finally gave CCSU the lead for the first time. Heartbreaking loss for The Heart, which is playing much better this year, but still has nothing to show for it. Their head coach, Paul Graham, seems to have resigned himself to being a doormat. This game featured to very poor starting QBs. If either of these two schools ever recruits a stud QB, they have all the other pieces.

SCOUTING SUMMARY:

College: Sacred Heart Conference: Northeast Columnist: Steve Martin

Game Notes
Andre Isla 28 6' 0.0" 190 4.65 S 2010: Had a very quiet first half , as he was not tested, and was asked to cover Josue Paul who reportedly runs in the 4.3s. Solid drive tackler who began to exert himself a bit more in the second half after being non-existent to the announcers in the first. Plays like a CB in SY and goal line. Has some coverage ability, but is a tweener with no home at the next level. GRADE: Neutral

Steve Tedesco 5 6' 0.0" 195 4.70 WR 2010: He is really suffering from inconsistent QB play this year, after being the NEC's top WR over the past couple of seasons. They didn't even throw to him until the very last play of the first half when he caught a last-second 34-yard TD off a deflection in the endzone to give SHU a 12-0 lead at the break. Strong and tough for a WR at this level. Wily. Gets open and has above average hands. 4.70 seems about right though....Blocks downfield and shows decent concentration on the ball. Underutilized big time today. GRADE: Neutral

Chansler Davis 58 6' 3.3" 222 4.78 LB 2010: Plays a hybrid "L.T." position for the Heart, and can wreak havoc when ignored. Can be neutralized at the POA by bigger linemen though. Gets around and makes plays to the sidelines. Showed me something when he covered a CSSU WR all the way to the endzone and had a huge PBU. Seems fairly athletic and fluid. Not sure if he has a home at the next level, but he flashes. GRADE: Slightly positive

Abel Malae 76 6' 3.5" 294 5.40 OT 2010: Primarily a finesse pass pro specialist. Seems lackadaisical at times and takes plays off. Wonder if he's bored? Hunts on the second level, but doesn't always hit. Can he play guard? Once in awhile he'll drive block somebody and drop him...hmmm....What are his weight room numbers? Looks like he needs a fire lit under him. Looks soft. GRADE: Negative

College: Central Connecticut Conference: Northeast Columnist: Steve Martin

Game Notes
Raymond Saunders 96 6' 0.0" 215 4.70 DE 2010: CCSU's answer to Columbia's Lou Miller, and is used similarly. Can be disruptive if he shakes free, but has the same issues that Miller has....tiny, and gets wired. Gets his damage when the lineman across from him wears down. GRADE: Neutral

James Mallory 2 5' 9.2" 200 4.55 HB 2010: Slow starter who must have help at the LOS. If he deoesn't get it, he doesn't get going. Has some moves (at least he tries some, but they don't always do much.) Grinder. First-year starter who may have some upside left. Can't believe he's 200 pounds...Strong, and rumbles once he gets it rolling. Lacks explosion and escapability. Productive at this level, but doubt he can be at the next. GRADE: Neutral

Hunter Wanket 11 6' 3.3" 210 4.75 QB 2010: Odd QB. Just plain odd. Best pass is the check down. Not sure how he is starting for a FCS program. Being rotated with a runner. Odd delivery with a hitch. Not sure why I have him in the database. Probably coming out if I see him again. GRADE: Negative

Roberto Rodriguez 99 6' 1.4" 245 4.88 DE 2010: best defensive lineman on the squad. Listed as a DE here, because that's where he projects, but plays DT for CCSU. Undersized but pretty quick. Can he convert to OLB? No way to tell from what I saw today. Blocks kicks. Keeps his motor running. GRADE: Slightly positive

Marcus Dorsey 8 6' 0.1" 173 4.55 CB 2010: Best PP for the 2010 draft in this game. Provided tight coverage on Tedesco throughout the first half. Sealed the win with a 101-yard int return TD. Shows fluid hips and some makeup speed. Tall enough. Must get thicker and stronger in the weight room. Has a shot to impress if he gets into a post-season all-star game. Had a couple of nice PDs in addition to the pick. GRADE: Positive

OTHER NOTES:

CCSU: Jr. QB Dale Fink (#14) let a stink bomb in this one. Jr. WR-KR Josue Paul (#5) may be the fastest man in the conference, but needs lots of polish. DT #92 (A Sr., 6'3", 245) Danny Rodriguez is a nice NEC DT. The steadiest defensive player on this team is junior LB Jeff Marino (#54, 6'1", 225). He may have a future. 4-year starting center Anthony Pineiro (#58, 6'3", 270) is the leader of the offensive line.

SHU: Junior RB Marcel Archer looked like a player in the first half but was injured in the 4th quarter and did not return. Sophomore ILB Chris Mandas has some talent, as does big junior WR (#4) Tony Patterson.
