Bears were supposedly looking for a trade for DL or secondary help.

Well they landed it tonight by trading a 2nd round pick in 2010 for him!!!!

I cant wait to see o'l Rod work with this kid.

Wow...this really surprises me. If I thought they would have made a trade I would have thought a linebacker or secondary. Especially with the production Marinilli has gotten so far. But I'm excited too. Anxious to see how he will do.

Very interesting. In my world, I have little time for following player performance after they hit the NFL. I hadn't heard Gaines was such a disappointment that he'd be discarded already for a 2nd.

I'm just wondering when did Jerry Angelo go? The guy coveted his draft picks and would never move up. Now he traded away two first and a third for Jay Cutler and now trades away the second this year? I like it, but its catching me out of left field. Maybe he liked taking the first day of the draft off and wants to do it again this year?

It is something how far he fell out of grace.

he started off well when they played the tampa 2, but when they swithced defensive shemes he started to fade. In chicagos tampa 2 with maranelli he should be a very productive end again.

Much like the NYG, you can never have too many pass rushers, not to mention the prince will be gone after this season. Gaines can book end alex brown then.

IMO the better coaches and teams are willing to tweak their schemes to maximize their available talent, not discard high first rounders for second round picks.

Agreed, I think chicago got a steal and he will be good.

Yes, Tampa now plays a different scheme, but your scheme...and coach, are what and who he played and for at Tampa, yet since the trade, he has made 0 tackles, and 0 sacks. Coming out, I thought he was a one dimensional player...ie. a pass rusher only, and without enough moves where NFL teams wouldn't be able to figure him out. I don't recall what notes I had on him back then, but I do believe I had put him into a group of possible 3-4 OLBs, believing he'd have a better chance of being successful at that position, rather than as a 4-3 end. There really shouldn't have been a learning curve here, as the little success he did have came in your defense, for your coach while in Tampa. Even with your current starting ends he should have at least been in a rotation by now, and contributed a heck of a lot more than he has. What's the scoop on him from your perspective, as I don't watch you guys all that much?
