Is it me or when you watch a sporting event do you expect the announcers to be able to pronounce the names of the athletes and coaches? Now I know that there could be an exception for a player that barely plays or comes out of nowhere, but you would assume they would have time to learn the star players names? I mean that is their job right?
For example. I follow the Nebraska Cornhuskers. They have a defensive tackle who is one of the best players in college football this year. There are national stories done on him. He is a projected top 10 pick in the upcoming NFL draft. You would think that if you are going to do the announcing for the game you could atleast learn how to say his first name. Its actually not that hard. (N dom u kong). Maybe its just mean but I find it extremely annoying that for the three televised games so far this year they keep refering to him as Mr. Suh. What the heck is that? If you don't know how to pronounce it atleast call him just Suh.
Maybe I'm a alone, but its driving my nuts.

Sadly, very little in this society is still based upon ability or merit. Professional sports, and, to a degree, the sciences...those are two of the only fields left where employment and promotion are still largely based on it.

The announcing crews seem to be more about entertaining than telling the story of the game, which is very annoying. Who cares if they miss a name as long as they say their catch phrase and talk about things unrelated to the game in front of them.

Ageed. Terribly annoying.
Another thing I can't stand (and being old school about this I'll probably get in trouble for saying so) are female announcers or young student color people who haven't a CLUE about football.

To be honest, I don't listen to college football announcers. Even if I have the volume on during a game, I'm not listening to what they're saying.
I do, however, listen to NFL announcers and have some strong feelings about them. This past weekend I got to hear Tim Ryan again and man is he good! I listen to him and Pat Kirwan on Sirius NFL Radio on my drive home and they're excellent there, but listening to him break down plays live is great.
I also love Gruden on MNF now. This is a great crew. Jaworski and Gruden both know the game inside out and can provide analysis immediately without having to go through replay. They are both entertaining as well.
I like Aikman as a color guy, but can't stand Joe Buck. He's too snarky for me. I don't want snarky play-by-play.
Brian Baldinger is another guy who is really good at analysis and isn't afraid to be controversial.

Not to mention Buck hates your Eagles...

True enough on Buck... although I have to admit, listening to Gruden heap praise upon Andy Reid and Michael Vick(!?) last night was a bit nauseating, so I don't really want Eagles haters or lovers. I want objectivity, analysis, and accuracy.

Ever since Buck over reacted to the whole Randy Moss fake mooning the Packers fans I lost all respect for him.

Me too. Plus, he doesn't come across as a regular guy. Too uptight. He makes those beer commercials, but I doubt he drinks beer. If he does he nurses it and leaves half of it in the bottle. Probably a white wine drinker. LOL
