Prairie View scored the winning TD midway through the 4th quarter on a run by versatile junior RB Donald Babers (20 carries, 110 yds., 2TDs--one on a 49-yd pass, one on the 3-yd run) to nip the Jaguars of Southern U. down in Baton Rouge this past Friday. This was a hard fought ballgame, with a couple of legit prospects. Babers will be next year, and WR Juamorris (pronounced "juh-MOR-is") is right now. The all-SWAC receiver had 10 catches for 120 yards and a spectacular 25-yard catch-and-run TD in the 3rd quarter to give Southern the lead at that time.

SCOUTING SUMMARY:

College: Prairie View A&M Conference: Southwest Athletic Columnist: Bill Carroll

Game Notes
Donald Babers 13 5' 7.5" 168 4.41 HB 2011: Little guy who runs with a lot of positive traits. Sets up the play, is patient and follows the blocks. Bursts through small holes. Hides behind linemen. Can catch the screen and go. Shows some explosion. 4.41 may be legit. Slippery, and hard to tackle. Shows above average vision and balance. Seems to wear down a little if run too many times in a row. Has a year to increase his visibility. Needs to show better hands to be considered a Dave-Meggett style camp back. GRADE: Positive

Anthony Beck 2 5' 10.4" 175 0.00 S 2010: Needs to be evaluated as a corner. Way too small for NFL safety. Seems to stay with his man in the Cover-3. Hits bigger than 175 pounds. Makes plays in the running game. Shows some ups in jump ball situations. Seems to have pretty good instincts. Can he turn and go? Need to evaluate his flip. Need a stop watch. Gets blown up by bigger WRs (like Stewart) and TEs, GRADE: INC.

Charles Alston 45 6' 3.0" 265 4.90 DE 2010: Was just starting to get somewhat intrigued when he just never came back after halftime. Didn't see an injury. Has some size. Thick build. Pursues down the LOS. Solid at POA in the SWAC. Pushes LOT back. Strings the run out well and tackles. Needs to recognize when he is stalemated sooner and be ready with a counter move. Scrapes well and arches to the inside run. Looks 4.90-5.00. Has some talent, but could be the LOC. GRADE: Neutral

College: Southern Conference: Southwest Athletic Columnist: Bill Carroll

Game Notes
Juamorris Stewart 88 6' 2.1" 196 4.57 WR 2010: First chance to really scout Juamorris, and I like what I see. Strong, and gets to a spot and claims it. Nice deaks. Really has some very good YAC skills. Breaks tackles, doubles back, and seems to see things developing in front of him. Above average hands, but needs more work. Will be able to beat the jam, but is a bit slow off the line. Pro size and strength. Looks like a #5 on almost any roster, day #1. Catches what he should and is a tough matchup for smaller people. GRADE: Positive

OTHER NOTES:

PVAMU: Their junior QB K.J. Black (#7, 6'3", 225) shows some skill. First play from scrimmage was a 49-yard screen play to Babers. Escapes, and throws on the run. Tall, and sees the field. Can make the ball zing a little. Tough to tackle and avoids the sack. Much better than the equally highly-touted Southern QB, Bryant Lee. Junior punter Pedro Ventura is small (5'9", 170) but has REALLY been getting the job done. Averaged 46.1 coming in. Averaged 42.3 today, but had three downed inside the 10, including two at the one. Appears to have a real nice feel and understanding of dropping it where the other team is in a bind. A weapon who will need to be watched closely next season.

Southern: Senior QB Bryant Lee (#16, 6'3", 205) had a nice statistical day (22 of 31, 238, 1/0) but I don't see anything for him beyond this season. Weak arm, ball floats and has very low velocity. Misses high. Sidearm delivery. Was out of sync early but played much better in the second half. He is a pick waiting to happen. Senior RDE Don Holloway (#92, 6'2", 260) flashed a little, especially in the first half, and holds the POA pretty well. Can't shed, and doesn't protect his legs. I doubt he can transition anywhere else. RS Freshman DT Casey Narcisse (#95) is a future PP.

NOTE: I looked in on WI-Eau Claire v. WI-Platteville, but saw nothing worth doing a writeup over.

Steve in your opinion are/were any of the kids you saw draftable?

Juamorris is the only bubble guy. Alston should make a camp though...
