This one was played in the Nebraska Panhandle at the home of Don Beebe and the NY Jets' RB Danny Woodhead. The RMAC has some talent every year, but there wasn't much this year in this particular game. There is only one guy with a camp shot, and no one draftable.
SCOUTING SUMMARY:
Mesa State Division II Conference Writer: Steve Martin
Aaron Silverthorn 42 601.4 195 4.75 SS 195 2010: Aaron is a drive tackler who really supports the run well and plays the position like a LB. 4.75 seems about right, and in all the years I've been following the draft only one +4.75 S has made it that I can remember--Aaron Francisco, BYU, '05. Has hands for the pick and is a solid 2-way safety at this level. May not have the speed and movement skills to stay with NFL receivers, and may never be more than a practice squad guy even if he plays better in pass defense than I expect. At this level, he's King Kong in pads. GRADE: Somewhat positive
OTHER NOTES:
Chadron State: Chadron has a senior LT who does a nice job at this level (#63 Ben Puffer, 6'3", 270) and an OLB who also does pretty well (Thomas Wells, #45, 6'1", 235--but probably 5'11"...) and a decent RMAC TE named Isaac Stockton, but there is no Beebe or Woodhead on the roster this season.
Mesa State: Best football player in the game is the RMAC's leading tackler, Bennett Newton (a senior ILB, #43, 6'1", 205) but he's probably only 6'0", 200...truth be known, and has no pro future.
Best future PP on either team did not play...true freshman QB John McClain for CSC.
