The University of Findlay (7-4, 6-4) hosted in-state rival Ashland University (6-5, 6-4) in their final game of the season on a beautiful, but blustery, indian summer day. In a game charged with emotion (several flags were thrown for unsportmanlike conduct) Ashland prevailed 41-28, forcing 5 Oiler turnovers (3 picks and 2 fumbles) enroute to the win.

AU QB and Harlon Hill candidate Billy Cundiff led the Eagles to victory in his final collegiate game with passing TDs of 26, 27, and 44 yards to 3 different AU receivers. After the teams traded field goals early, AU picked up a TD to lead 10-3. Findlay responded with another field goal, and then the AU defense got in on the scoring act with a Brian Gamble interception of Andrew Beam that he returned 24 yards for the TD. On the next possession, Beam fumbled and AU recovered. 5 plays later, AU scored on a Joe Horn reverse from the 9, giving the Eagles a 24-6 advantage. Beam and his Oilers came back with a drive of their own to score: 24-13 AU. Ashland responded with a 27 yard Cundiff to Horn TD to go up 31-13, but Findlay wasn't done, using a 27 yard scramble by Beam (where he appeared to break a tackle by almost every AU defender on the field!) to set-up a TD pass in the final minute of the half that saw 38 points scored in the quarter. Ashland went into the locker room up 31-20.

Both defenses stiffened in the second half, but Beam was able to hit Mike Chambers for a 7-yard TD and 2-point convesion, to pull the Oilers within a field goal, 31-28. Ashland responded with a Cundiff TD pass and field goal in the 4th to close out the win 41-28.

Mike Chambers 2 6' 1.7" 199 4.55 WR 2010

Chambers had 9 catches for 98 yards and a TD and conversion to lead all receivers. However, he had two drops, including a key-third down slant that he tried to catch off his chest. He finishes the year with 62 catches for 1027 yards (a new Findlay school record) and 8 TDs. I've watched Chambers play over two seasons and believe he has excellent size and strength and good speed and toughness to play for an NFL team - with a good pro day(and hopefully an opportunity at a senior bowl) he should be a 6th-7th round selection.

GRADE: SLIGHTLY POSITIVE

Joe Knopick 6 5' 11.5" 220 4.85 LB 2010

Every time I see him, it seems Knopick leads his team defensively (11 tackles, 7 solo with a TFL, QB hurry and pass break-up) confirming my opinion that he is an outstanding college LB (he finishes the season averaging 10.7 tackles per game). Once again, he was solid 'head-on' but has limited lateral speed, something AU exploited particularly well in the 2nd half with the sweep. He also had an excellent punt that rolled dead on the AU 4 (Knopick punted 8 times this season with 6 inside the 20). Great heart and leadership - not sure he has the physical tools required to make it to the next level.

GRADE: SLIGHTLY POSITIVE

Anthony Fields 22 5' 9.0" 195 4.60 S 2010

Fields had 10 tackles (7 solo) and had 2 pass break-ups. But he allowed AU receivers to get behind him a couple times and Cundiff made him pay with 2 TD passes to his side. He had 5 KO returns for 110 (he finishes the year averaging 19.7 yards per return). Based on today's performance, he will have to shine at the pro day to get an invitation to camp - but he has the potential speed and cover skills (demonstrated throughout the season) to contribute at the next level.

GRADE: SLIGHTLY POSITIVE

Andrew Beam 11 6' 4.0" 230 4.70 QB 2010

I have seen Beam a couple times this year and today this was not his best outing of the year. Inconsistent describes his performance - he made some accurate, well thrown passes on several plays, but had 3 INTs (and could have 2 more that were dropped) and some plays that left me scratching my head (for example, while being tackled, he tried to flip the ball to a back who was surrounded by 3 defenders and fortunately for Beam, no one was able to secure the ball.) Ashland's defense uses alot of movement and 'false sets' to hide their coverages and Beam was not able to decipher it well. He is very mobile and had a spectacular 27-yard scramble that was deserving of Sportscenter 'play of the day' recognition. He is the main reason Findlay won 7 games this year and when he struggles, the team struggles - he finished the year with a 128.9 passer rating (171 for 298 with 8 picks for 2179 yards and 14 TDs). Physically able to play at the next level, but not sure he is ready mentally for the next level - could be a UFL candidate where he can develop his reads and get experience with pro defensive speed.

Billy Cundiff 17 6' 1.6 219 4.58 QB 2010

Cundiff finished his college career with his most complete game of the year. He controlled the tempo, made good reads, and protected the ball. On the year, Cundiff has completed 199 of 305 passes for 2653 and 24 TDs with just 1 INT (for his career he has 79 TDs against 16 INTs completing 64.6% of 1001 passes for 9143 yards). His young offensive line provided excellent protection giving up no sacks against a team in the top of the GLIAC in tackles for loss and sacks. He demonstrated solid arm strength and accuracy, even when throwing into the 15-20 mph wind (he had an excellent fade to Horn for a TD placed right on the endline where only his receiver could make the play or the ball would be out of bounds). On an important third down, he scrambled to his left, re-set his feet and delivered an excellent pass on the sideline to move the chains. Various scouts have put him anywhere from 4th to 7th round - I see him as definitely draftable, but probably in the 6th or 7th round. He has the combination of physical skill, work ethic, and on the field poise it takes to be successful in the NFL.

GRADE: VERY POSITIVE

Joe Horn 7 5' 11.9 186 4.40 WR 2011

Horn caught 6 for 89 with a 27 yard TD and 1 carry for 9 yards and another TD. He had a solid day, using his speed to burn the Findlay secondary several times. The TD catch from Cundiff was an over-the-shoulder hands catch, where he also had to get his feet down to stay in bounds. On a key 3rd down, he caught a quick stop for the needed 3 yards, but was able to use his elusiveness to get 12 more - and by keeping his cool after he was hit late, the officals tacked on 15 more yards. His run blocking was also good today, with several key seal blocks on Oiler OLBs to spring AU runners. At the AU team banquet, he was named as the third highest point getter among all AU special teams players attesting to his value to the team and work ethic outside his role as WR. He finishes the year with 45 catches for 677 and 7 receiving TDs, averaging 15.0 ypc. Horn needs to add 7-10 pounds of muscle to put himself in a draftable position in 2011, but with that and his excellent speed, solid route running, run blocking and good hands, he will be capable of competing at the next level.
