The situation occurred as Rich Eisen was describing B.Y.U. fullback Manase Tonga's second heat at the 40-yard dash starting line. Rich said that Tonga had been on a mission, and was married with children. Mike Mayock shockingly piped up and said, "They all are. They're not allowed to have sex before marriage, so they...."

To Eisen's credit he immediately and sternly intervened by saying, "Mike, we don't need that type of analysis. No, we really don't..."

There was a painful silence for a few seconds followed by a good deal of giggling. Then Eisen discredited himself also by saying, "Besides we all know the next thing you would have brought up were the measurables..." followed by more laughter.

I wonder what the Mormon Church will do if anything here...

Didnt see this yet. I guess they probably wont show it again.

I dont raelly think its that big of a deal. He didnt say anything malicious or offensive.

Just heard it. They showed it again so apparently they arent embarrassed of it. Didnt seem like a big deal at all to me and Eisen's (my) voice was hardly stern.

I thought "your" voice was genuinely quite stern at first, Rich. Then, it seemed to me you quickly decided you needed to bring some levity into the situation, and you came back with a crude crack.

Now, will anything happen? I guess that would be up to the LDS. They are quite a powerful group now, and in this P.C. society--when any such comments labeling whole groups of people as anything, whether maliciously intended or not--any group can be "offended" and seek reprisal.

We'll see what happens....

Yeah I guess, people today seem to get offended by the littlest things. Needless to say we are probably too PC for our own good.

I just didnt think it was that big of a deal.

Oh no, he said Mormons don't have children before marriage...how dare he, wait, is that an insult?

I think the NFL Network should step in and punish Mayock for that. Given similar types of incidents and punishments over at the 4-letter sports network, I think a one-month suspension would be appropriate... beginning in June.

It really should be up to BYU, or the LDS, or Tonga himself I suppose, but I'd be surprised if this blatant knock on standard Christian teachings (pre-marital sex is not condoned--at least on paper--by practically any Church in America) isn't reacted to by someone.
