LS- Mannelly
K- Gould

Picks
29-Gabe Carimi- Some see him limited to RT, but I think profiles into Tice power OL well on the left side. A huge upgrade in talent regardless and now Forte will have two OTs who can dominate the run game off the edges where he is at his best.
62-Drake Nevis-Perfect fit for my system at UT. Really should have gotten first round consideration over a couple of guys who have more exciting size and tools, but he will be an impact 3-technique for us just like he was in college.
92-Davon House-Another player I see as big value in his slot. My favorite cover 2 CB in that second tier group.
126-Jordan Todman-Carried the load in college which negates concern about his size, was UConn's only weapon since their QBs couldn't throw the ball and he succeeded despite the fact that every team knew to key on him. He'll hit the HR and excel at catching out of the backfield, so he's my perfect third down HB.
157-Brandon Fusco-Needed depth in my interior and I think he profiles well as that guy who can cover all three spots. It's hard to argue with his resume and the scouts love him.
190- Jerrard Tarrant-Like what he flashed in his first season at S after transitioning from CB. Rangy athlete with solid tackling skills to develop behind a solid rotation.

Trades
Bears Get:

Bears Get:

Eagles Get:
Pick 64 and Roberto Garza

Trade Summary
I went in only wanting to add real-life FA's to my team outside of the draft and think I improved my roster greatly. First I added Vincent Jackson which needs no explanation. He's a stud and Jay needs that. I upgraded my teams weak spot OL greatly with three new starters while keeping the two young OL that really showed something down the stretch in Webb and Williams (who I really thought was our best OL to close out the season). Getting one of the best young Cs in the game was a no brainer for me, and Yanda is one of the most underrated lineman in the league, IMO. I really only lost minimal impact depth players outside of Tommie, who just hasn't gotten it done and is showing no signs of turning that around.

Houston Texans

IMD Goals
1. Obtain peices to transition from a 4-3 defense to the 3-4.

With the switch the 3-4 the Texans had to shift players around and find players that better fit the scheme. Stephen Paea was brought in to be the new NT, Elvis Dumervill, Jerry Hughes, Brooks Reed, Larry Hart, and Eric Norwood were brought in at rush linebacker. Larry Foote and Akeem Dent came in to provide expereince as ILB. The Defensive line was pretty much set with Antonio Smith previousaly playing DE in the 3-4 back in Arizona. Mario Williams will play another defensive end spot, but in Wade Phillips defense the end spot is more like a 3 technique defensive tackle where he is asked to penetrate and rush the quarterback. Don't forget that Bruce Smith excelled in this role under Phillips.

2. Improve the Secondary

The Houston Texans had the worst pass defense in the NFL last year. The secondary coudn't be left alone. First thing I did was brought in Champ Bailey. Although he is getting older he is still one of the top 3 cornerbacks in the NFL. Bailey will provide elite play and mentoring to the young cornerbacks on the roster. Glover Quinn had a bad year but he is still young and can bounce back. He has slide into the nickle role where he is better suited. Kendric Burney was drafted in the fourth round and he gives the Texans a talented cover corner that is an interception machine. Learning from Champ Bailey will do a lot for his development. Rahim Moore was drafted to be the new FS. Eugene Wilson was cutting it and had to be replaced. Moore is an excellent coverage safety that will patroll the middle of the field. Eric Hagg and Melvin Bullett were brought into to compete for the strong safety spot. Bullett will more than likely start the year as Hagg transitions to the SS spot and the NFL.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Transactions

1. Texans receive Pick #35(2nd) for Amobi Okoye

With the Texans switch from a 4-3 defense to a 3-4 there were some players who just didn't fit in. Amobi Okoye was drafted to be a 3 technique penetrating defensive tackle, so That wasn't going to be a good fit in the 3-4. I was able to move him for a high second round pick that got me my new FS Rahim Moore.

2. Texans receive Champ Bailey, Justin Bannan, and Pick #36 for Pick #11

The Texans secondary last year was awful and had to be upgraded. Here the Texans get one of the top 3 cornerbacks in the NFL. There was no cornerback that would have been available at #11 that would be as good as Bailey. We also got Justin Bannan who is a quality depth at a 5 technique defensive end.

3. Texans receive Elvis Dumervill and Pick #194 for Zach Diles, Pick #42, Pick #135, and Pick #173

Another position that needed to be addressed in the transition to the 3-4 defense was at rush linebacker. Elvis Dumervill was a defensive MVP canidate last year in the 3-4 and with Denver moving back to the 4-3 there were questions about him. Getting him and a was worth giving up Zach Diles (who didn't fit in the 3-4) and a picks.

4. Texans receive Jerry Hughes, Melvin Bullett, and Anthony Gonzalez for Benard Pollard, Jason Allen, and Daryll Sharpton

It was hard to trade away Benard Pollard but the Texans were able to receiver a young pass rusher in Jerry Hughes, a very good slot receiver in Anthonly Gonzalez, and a good young strong safety in Melvin Bullett. Jason Allen and Daryll Sharpton were ok players but were not really needed anymore.

5. Texans receive Larry Foote for Pick #204 (7th)

With the move to the 3-4 the Texans needed to bring in somebody at the ILB position. DeMeco Ryans and Brian Cushing should do well, but adding a veteran the likes of Larry Foote would do wonders for Cushing and Ryans. Foote has been a part of some very good 3-4 defenses and he could give some of his wisdom to the younger guys.

6. Texans receive Larry Hart and Pick #177(6th) for Cody Wallace and Matt Lienert

Here the Texans are able to get another young pass rusher to add to their mix. All the Texans had to give up was a 3rd string QB and a 3rd string C.

7. Texans draft Rahim Moore FS UCLA

This pick was made to help shore up a secondardy that needed help badly. The Texans were the worst passing defense in the NFL last year. Moore is an excellent free safety that is at his best when he is roaming "center field" Add in Moore's elite ball skills and the turnovers could pill up.

8. Texans draft Stephen Paea NT Oregon State

The next position of need for the Texans is the Nose Tackle spot. Shuan Cody and Earl Mitchell could do, but Paea would give the Texans and elite run stuffer. Paea is very similar to the Cowboy's Jay Ratliff who flourished under Wade Phillips in Dallas. Also through in that Paea broke the bench press record at the combine and he has the strength to take on blockers, stuff the run and still make an impact.

9. Texans draft Brooks Reed OLB Arizona

Brooks Reed had a great season at Arizona rushing the quarterback. However his best position might be at rush linebacker. Reed has been compared to Clay Matthews because of his non stop motor, strength, and pass rushing skills. If Brooks Reed can even be 75% of Clay Matthews the Texans got a steal here.

10. Texans draft Kendric Burney CB North Carolina

Houston was thrilled to see Burney in the 4th round. Burney was poised to have a great season this year but was suspended by the NCAA and when he came back he never really got into a groove. However at the Senior Bowl Burney was unstoppable. He was an interception machine and showed good coverage skills. The plan is to have Burney back up Champ Bailey and learn from the future Hall of Famer before taking over in a couple of years.

11. Texans receive Pick #154 (5th) for Mark Anderson

Mark Anderson was cut one game into the 2010 season by the Chicago Bears. He came aboard, but there were quetions if he was going to be able to contribute to the defense with Dumervill, Reed, Hart, Hughes, and Barwin. Getting a 5th round pick was a great value and used to draft promising OT Derek Newton.

12. Texans receive Pick #133 (5th) for Owen Daniels

Owen Daniels was another player tough to move, but with the emergence of Joel Dressen and Dorin Dickerson and Jasey Casey on the roster it was a move that could be made. Plus Daniels has been injured often and production has been declining too. The 5th round pick was able to get promising WR Cecil Shorts.

13. Texans draft Cecil Shorts WR Mount Union

Shorts is from Division III Mt. Union but he possesses Division I talent. He is big has good hands and has the speed to with time develop into a quality #2 receiver opposite of Andre Johnson.

14. Texans draft Derek Newton OT Arkansas State

Duane Brown has been an ok left tackle for the Texans in their zone blocking scheme but he has had some injury issues. Rashad Butler has been a good backup but isn't starting material. This draft doesn't have a lot of ZBS OTs in the middle rounds but Newton has a ton of poential. Coming from a smaller FBS school Newton has the athletic ability to fit into the zone blocking scheme.

15. Texans draft Eric Hagg SS Nebraska

With the trade of Benard Pollard the Texans needed to add another future strong safety to the mix. Eric Hagg enjoyed a very good college career at Nebraska. Hagg played a hybrid role where he ended up playing the linebacker, corner, and safety spot. Hagg's should translate well to the strong safety spot where he can play in the box, deep zone, and match up to tight ends runnng backs and occasionally slot receivers.

16. Texans draft Akeem Dent LB Georgia

Here the Texans add another piece to their 3-4 defense. Dent is an developmental inside linebacker that does a great job of shedding blockers and stopping the run inside. Dent also comes to the Texans will experience playing in the 3-4 defense at Georgia. Dent can back up DeMeco Ryans, Brian Cushing, and Larry Foote and learn under those three while providing solid depth and help on special teams.

17. Texans receive Eric Norwood for Xavier Adibi

Xavier Adibi was a good linebacker in the 4-3, but was a terrible fit in the 3-4 and didn't make sense to keep around. Eric Norwood didn't do much in his rookie season but is a better fit in the 3-4 as a rush linebacker. Norwood will have to try and make the team as a special teamer and develop as a rush linebacker.

Draft Picks

4th Round - Pick 10 (#106)
5th Round - Pick 9 (#137)
6th Round - Pick 19 (#179)

Trades Made

Turk McBride (DE) to the Denver Broncos for Perrish Cox (CB) - Trade made to get experience at the DB position, one of the poorest groups on the team. Unloaded a 3rd string player from the strongest position group on the team. Cox is also younger, and was more heralded out of college than McBride, making for a higher potential ceiling in the future.

Amari Spievey (SS), R3/P75, R7/P222 to the Indianapolis Colts for Bob Sanders (SS) - While Sanders has proven to be an injury risk, this shores up the weakest position on defense, as Spievey proved to be out of position many times this season, albeit as a rookie. With Sanders healthy, this move creates arguably the most intimidating safety tandem in football, which can take a lot of pressure off the less-than-impressive CB core. Sanders is a high 1st round talent, while Spievey is 4th round talent...so pairing him with a 3rd round pick and 7th round pick seems well worth it.

2. GET BETTER ON OL
IJALANA WILL BE THE STARTER SOON AT RT AND SATELE WILL START AT CNT. BRINGING IN WOMACK AND GARZA FOR DEPTH SHOULD HAVE IMPROVED THE OL GREATLY.

3. GET BIGGER ON DL
ROGERS AND TAYLOR HUGE GUYS ADDING THEM TO LAWS DIXION AND OWENS MAKES A NICE HUGE ROTATION

4. IMPROVE LB
CARTER WILL PUSH FOR THE STARTING POSITION WITH JACKSON AND SIMS, AND BELLORE WILL MAKE SOME HEADS ROLL

Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and "esprit de corps" of the Ranger Regiment.
Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite soldier who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air, I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move farther, faster and fight harder than any other soldier.
Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong and morally straight and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be. One hundred percent and then some.
Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well trained soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, my neatness of dress and care for equipment shall set the example for others to follow.
Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country.
Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission, though I be the lone survivor.
