Adam Davis interviews Quentin Groves
Interviewed on: Monday, May 7th, 2007 Adam Davis: Hey Quentin, thanks for interviewing with us. Can you give us your height, weight, 40 time? Quentin Groves: 6-3, 250, I ran a 4.43 and a 4.37 at the Junior Pro Day (Raiders scout timed me). AD: How do you usually spend the off-season? QG: I usually just like chilling with my wife. AD: How does it feel to be named to the Lombardi Watch List 2 years in a row? QG: Feels good. It's something I pray for every night. It’s a huge honor and it’s just crazy to be mentioned with the other guys up for the award. I just thank God everyday. AD: What are your goals for this year? QG: To win the SEC Championship and hopefully a National Championship. I’d like to break the Auburn career sack record; I’m only 3 ½ away right now. Also just want to become a more complete player. I want to be not good, but great at everything. I just want to do everything right, ask God for strength, and I know the stats will come. AD: How tough was it to turn down the NFL last year? QG: It was tough. You know I have a family now and I went home and just saw my mom struggling. It was hard to see how they were living. I think that was the hardest part. AD: What grade did you receive from the NFL? QG: They said the highest I would go is 3rd round, lowest I would go is 5th round.
AD: What have you learned from all the great players who put on an Auburn uniform? QG: Just to stay humble. You can be an All-American one day, and a nobody the next. As easy as you get it, God can take it away. They say just to say humble and God will bless you. AD: What are you looking forward to most this year? QG: Bringing more glory to God in the way that I play. I not only want to work harder and be a better football player, but a better Christian football player. AD: Who is the toughest lineman you have ever faced? QG: Oh, Marcus McNeill hands down. AD: Do you embrace the “tweener” label? Is there one position that you prefer? QG: My thought is I will do what the coaches want me to do. If they want me to play linebacker, 4-3 end, play the slot, whatever. The same goes in the NFL, I will do whatever an NFL team wants me to do. As far as what I like, I like showing off in space and rushing the passer. AD: What have you been improving on most in the off-season? QG: Guarding receivers in the slot. Also getting to running backs in the backfield. I’m working on successfully dissecting plays. AD: Is Brad Lester the next great Auburn running back? How do you think he is going to do? QG: Oh, he will do some big things. He has had some injuries in his career, but he is going to be a great player before he leaves Auburn. AD: What do you feel are your biggest strengths? QG: My speed and my strength. I think guys don’t realize how strong I am until they see my bull-rush moves! I also feel like I am one of the smartest players on our defense. I can look at a play and see if its 2nd and 4 and know the QB will do a 3 step drop or likely run the ball. Just stuff like that. AD: What about weaknesses? QG: My weight. I need to bulk up. I want to go into this season at 260. I just thank God for the success that I have had so far. AD: What do you like to do outside of football? I talked to Johnathan (Wilhite) and he said you guys really like to play NCAA Football. QG: Spending time with my wife, that’s the love of my life. I do like video games. He did beat me the last time. We do like Madden. I play with Florida State in NCAA, and Pittsburgh in Madden. AD: Well we greatly appreciate you doing an interview with us, best of luck this season! QG: Thank you Adam. |
