Adam Davis interviews Marcus Monk

Interviewed on: Wednesday, May 30th, 2007
Height: 6' 4.2"
Weight: 222 lbs
Speed: 4.41 (Pro Day)
Bench Reps: (Player Reported)

Adam Davis: Hey Marcus, what was your most recent height, weight, and 40 time?
Marcus Monk: I was 6-5, 217, and I haven't run a 40 in a while.
AD: How do you usually spend the offseason?
MM: Lifting, working out, and going to school. I lift everyday and just catching a lot of balls everyday getting ready for the season.
AD: What are your personal and team goals for this season?
MM: Well as a team, I think we were a lot better than people thought last year, but we weren't satisfied. We didn't finish last year and that is all we have been focused on is just finishing and improving on our 10-win season. We want to make it back to Atlanta, which is of course where the SEC Championship is held. In terms of personally, I don't set them. I just want to work hard, prepare myself to be the first receiver taken and be someone who can help my teammates.
AD: What led to the turnaround at Arkansas?
MM: We did it all together, no one paid attention to who. It started in the spring and it continued after the first game and the loss had us come together.
AD: What are you looking forward to most this year?
MM: Getting back on the field. I'm a student of the game, I love the game.
AD: You were close to declaring for the NFL last year. What grade did you receive and what led to you deciding to come back for another year?
MM: I got a 2nd-3rd round grade. I prayed on it a lot and thought it best to come back. There were a lot of receivers who entered and I don't have any regrets about it and I'm just focused on getting bigger, stronger, and quicker.
AD: How do you think the transfer of Mitch Mustain to USC will affect the team?
MM: Well he transferred, and we don't want anyone on the team who doesn't want to be here. He's a good player and I wish him the best. Right now Casey is the starter, I see him making a big improvement this season.
AD: You've played basketball and football at Arkansas. Do you have any plans to do both this year?
MM: I just played ball my first year here. I'm not thinking about basketball I'm just focused on filling in the holes and my all around game.
AD: What advantages can you gain from playing basketball?
MM: Timing. You have to time a lot in basketball. Footwork is important, you know footwork is an important part of basketball. In basketball you have to control your body and I think that helps me out on the football field as well.
AD: What is the most important thing receivers need to have?
MM: Well you gotta have heart. Some say speed or being strong. Lots of players aren't the fastest they are just smart. Just having a combo of many things.
AD: What are you looking to improve on most this year Marcus?
MM: Just getting out there and competing and making every play. It's my job to go out there and make the QB's job look easy.
AD: What would you say is your best overall asset?
MM: My size, I think I use my size pretty well. Also my speed, to go along with my size. And my hands!
AD: Well that's 3, but no problem! What would you say is your biggest weakness?
MM: Trying to be perfect. I know its hard to be perfect. I work on the small things like quickness, blocking, all the small things you don't always see that make you a better player.
AD: I know you love football, but what do you like to do outside of football?
MM: Just chill with teammates and family. Check a movie. Hang out with everyone. Oh, and I like to fish.
AD: Well we wish you the best of luck this season, thanks again for interviewing with Consensus Draft.
MM: Thanks again, Adam.
