Brett Walker interviews Eric Sanders
Interviewed on: Monday, June 18th, 2007 Brett Walker: Could you talk about your role as leader of the offense? Eric Sanders: We run the West Coast Offense. There's a lot of checks at the line. We'll call two plays in the huddle and what play looks best we'll run. I line up the players, run the checks based on what front I see. BW: You don't see the WCO too much in college. What part of the Bill Walsh tree did your offense come off of? ES: Mario Verduzco was taught by Bill Walsh. He's our QB coach. He taught Jeff Garcia at SJSU. We run about half our plays from the T (under cneter) and half from the gun. When we're in 3rd and long I'll be in the gun. BW: What's your goal if football doesn't work out? ES: I'm on pace to graduate with a degree in Business Management in May. If I don't get a shot at the next level I'd like to be a graduate assistant coach in college. BW: What are your strengths and areas to improve? ES: I'm a smart QB. Iowa and Appalachian State stated I was the smartest QB they had faced. I'm well-coached, accurate, and quicker than fast in the pocket. Areas I'm trying to improve are my arm strength and just trying to put on some weight and strength. BW: What's your favorite play call? ES: Well anything that scores! I like the play we call the rattle with two WR on a side and one runs the post and one runs the under corner. BW: What's your team outlook for the upcoming season?
ES: We get 18 starters back and we have to win the close games and stay healthy. Last year was tough. We had a let down. Hopefully we can go deep into the playoffs again. BW: Hobbies? ES: Golf, I use to play to scratch in high school. I don't play to that now. I coach a baseball team in the summer. I also play a lot of basketball. BW: ES: BW: ES: BW: ES: |
