Brett Walker interviews Gerard Lewis
Interviewed on: Saturday, June 30th, 2007 Brett Walker: Where are you from and how did you end up at Hawaii? Gerard Lewis: I'm from Houston, TX. I played J.C. ball at Tyler J.C. in East TX. Hawaii recruited me the hardest coming out of Tyler. BW: How come you didn't go straight DI out of high school? GL: We'll there's a story to that! In high school I didn't even start. The corners ahead of me, they both went DI out of HS. I knew I could play so I went to Tyler J.C. and they gave me a scholarship and I earned my way from there. BW: What's your favorite play call? GL: Soft Cover 2 look and if no one goes to the flat I cover the #1 receiver man up. BW: How are you guys going to look this year? GL: Good! The goal is to win the WAC and then go to a BCS game. BW: Hobbies?
GL: Working out and video games. NCAA College Football is my favorite game. BW: How do you like Hawaii? GL: It's cool. A laid back lifestyle. BW: Who did you get your picks against last year? GL: LA Tech, NM State, and a game winner against Purdue. BW: How was your game against Fresno? You guys really dominated them! GL: I had like 6 or 7 tackles. But, I dropped a pick. BW: What's your vertical jump? GL: 36 inches. BW: What's it like covering Davone Bess and Grace Mullins everyday in practice? GL: They get me to be a better player. You better be ready to compete everyday or those guys will embarass you. BW: Do you play ST? GL: Yes, last year I was the gunner and played on kickoffs. BW: What was it like playing under Coach Glanville? GL: OK, you better be able to play on an island. Now we have Coach McMackin as our D-Coordinator. |
