Interviewed on: Thursday, June 28th, 2007
Height: 6' 1.0"
Weight: 205 lbs
Speed: 4.57 (Pro Day)
Bench Reps: (Player Reported)

Adam Davis: Hey Derek, thanks for taking some time to sit down with us. Could you tell us your last height, weight, and 40 time?
Derek Kinder: Sure. I was 6-1, 207, and I havent ran a 40 in a while. I would say I'd run in the high 4.4s.
AD: How do you spend the summer?
DK: Trying to graduate in December. I actually have a workload this summer with 13 credits and trying to get done with classes. It's actually more work over the summer semester than it is the regular semester.
AD: What is your major?
DK: Economics.
AD: What type of drills are you doing to get better?
DK: Well we have a new strength coach. We are working on footwork, getting guys faster. We are doing a lot of stuff in the weight room to be beneficial in the game.
AD: Are you the next guy to turn Pitt into Wide Receiver U?
DK: Well it's a great comparison to those guys. I'm glad I've been able to start to make a name for myself. We have had some great receivers here I just feel fortunate to make make strides to be productive for my team.
AD: What are your personal goals for this year?
DK: Well I want to expand on my breakout season I had last year. I'd like to better my stats. I'm just trying to get them to where I need to be.
AD: You have some of the better hands in America. What is your secret?
DK: I'm always catching alot of balls. I'm always using the jug machine. I think I'm just really tough on myself. I have the mentality of its our job to catch the ball. We consider anything that touches our hands we don't catch is a drop.
AD: Is it a goal to win the Biletnikoff this year?
DK: Definitely! Last year it was extremely incredible. I want to expand on my season and everything else will take care of itself.
AD: What kind of receiver do you consider yourself; possession, big play, speed?
DK: I think I have a mixture of those attributes. I think I'm a tough hard nosed receiver. I feel I have big play ability and stretch the field and get 1st downs, I feel I am a dilligent blocekr and can spring backs.
AD: What has been your greatest football moment?
DK: I would say this past year when Darrelle had that great return. I had a key block and that was a play to remember.
AD: Who is the team to beat in the Big East?
DK: It has a lot of depth this year. It's wide open and lots of teams have the chance to make some noise. WVU, and Louisville are the frontrunners. We just have to play for a full 4 quarters and I think we can be good. That is something we were not able to do last year was finish games.
AD: What do you feel are your biggest strengths?
DK: My focus and determination. I can't stand I cant do one thing or another. I know my abilities and when I put my mind there, I can succeed in anything I can do.
AD: What about your biggest weaknesses?
DK: Not as vocal as I need to be. I lead more by example. I need to take out a bigger role and motivate as much as I can.
AD: What do you like to do outside of football?
DK: Like most guys I love playstation. I take pride in Madden. It's nice cause it takes my mind off of the real deal.
