Interviewed on: Thursday, January 31st, 2008
Height: 6' 3.0"
Weight: 272 lbs
Speed: 4.71 (Combine)
Bench Reps: (Player Reported)

Adam Davis: Hey Chris, could you tell us your most recent measurements?
Chris Long: 6-4, 272.
AD: Where have you been training to get ready for the scouting combine in Indy?
CL: In Charlottesville and in New Jersey.
AD: Are you planning to do the full workout there?
CL: Yes.
AD: At this point, you could be the first overall pick to the Dolphins with the their 3-4 scheme down there. How do you think you would fit into that system and could you see yourself going number 1 coming into this season?
CL: I think I would have some work to do in adjusting to whatever role they or any team wants me to play. To go number one is a goal, but I'm looking to do everything I can between now and the draft and let that stuff take care of itself.
AD: How do you think Al Groh prepared you to play in the NFL?
CL: Coach Groh runs an NFL type program. He stresses all the values and work habits that make professionals successful on and off the field, which he learned coaching in the league. I definitely do not take my experiences under coach Groh for granted.
AD: What was the single most important thing your dad taught you about football?
CL: How hard I need to work, not only on game day, but everyday. He also taught me a lot about humility. He is one of the most humble people I've ever met.
AD: You racked up a lot of accolades in college, what would you say was/is your most treasured?
CL: Being a two-time team captain is easily the most treasured one for me because it is a measure of your teammates level of respect for you, and that is more valuable than anything to me by a long shot.
AD: What is the number one thing you would like to come out of the combine and eventually your pro day?
CL: To feel like I've successfully disproved the theory that I'm just an overachieving high-motor football player. I want to show people the athlete that I am. I want to compete at everything including the combine.
AD: From all of your contacts, what do you think will be the toughest part about transitioning into the NFL?
CL: The length of the season.
AD: What are the most important attributes a defensive end has to have to be successful?
CL: Relentlessness, explosion and use of hands.
AD: How tough of a decision was it to say no to the NFL and come back for your senior year?
CL: It was an easy decision for me and I take a lot of pride in having stayed and finishing what I started and enjoying a great senior season with my teammates. My heart was never in leaving.
AD: What was your favorite memory as a Virginia Cavalier?
CL: Celebrating and walking out of the Orange Bowl after our 48-0 win in the last game there.
AD: What would you say is the consensus on where the NFL has told you will land in the draft?
CL: The NFL hasn't told me anything, and I don't expect to hear anything nor will I pay attention to any prediction until draft day.
AD: What would you say is your biggest overall strength?
CL: My motor and versatility.
AD: What would you say is your biggest overall weakness?
CL: There are so many that I can improve on.
AD: What does Chris Long like to do outside of football?
CL: I like to work out, hang out with my teammates and my family. Other than that I listen to a lot of music and if the weather is good you could find me outside.
