Adam Davis interviews Paul Oliver
Interviewed on: Tuesday, October 10th, 2006 Adam Davis: Hey Paul, its a pleasure to be talking with you. Paul Oliver: Oh thanks Adam. AD: I like to start with your height, weight, and 40 time. PO: Ok. I'm 6-0, 205, and ran a 4.4. AD: Has this season been up to your expectations? PO: You can say that. We always expect to win and it's hard losing two games back to back. But that's what you have to expect in the SEC. AD: How do you feel you have played this year? PO: I've done pretty good. I've made some mistakes. I can think of plays I could have done better, but I've done well, I think. AD: What's your best game to date? PO: Ole Miss probably. AD: Who do you feel is the best team in the SEC? PO: I never want to count my team out. You could say Florida or Tennessee. There are still some teams in the race like Arkansas and Auburn. AD: What have you learned from all the great players who have played at Georgia over the last few years like Greg Blue, DeMario Minter, David Pollack, etc? PO: I learned alot, especially from Greg and DeMario. I still talk to them. They taught me about the little things that make the big difference. Also taught me about preparation, tape study, and things to help you get faster. AD: You have faced some great receivers in the SEC. Who was the toughest one? PO: I've had some great ones here at Georgia like Fred and Reggie. Calvin Johnson was pretty tough. Courtney Taylor is another guy that is tough.
AD: How does the defense this year differ from last year? PO: I don't know if we have that star quality. In the years past we have 3 or 4 big time players, 2 All-Americans, and a number of All-SEC players. We have a lot more unsure guys but are playing well. AD: What is the most important thing a DB has to have? PO: Lots of things, it requires a lot. Requires attitude, hustle, playing hard, and just playing at the top of your game. AD: I know you are from Georgia, what made you want to go to school there? PO: Like you said I'm from Georgia. I lived 45 minutes from campus. Being close to my family and friends was always important to me. I knew a lot of the guys on the roster and grew up watching them. AD: What are your biggest strengths? PO: I think man to man coverage-- pressed up on a receiver. I can always get better on every aspect of my game. I think I'm good at going up for the ball when it's in the air. AD: What about weaknesses? PO: I don't know. I can always get better. AD: Thanks Paul for the interview. You are playing very well. PO: Thanks. AD: UPDATED by Steve Martin 12/6/06:
Paul what is your latest height and weight? PO: I am six-foot even, and I weigh in at 210. AD: Wow, that IS good size for a corner.
When did you run your latest forty? PO: I actually haven't run one since high school. AD: What do you think you should be able to run in the postseason if you declare? PO: I would say 4.4. AD: 4.40?...or 4.45...or 4.49? PO: I would say 4.45. AD: How many reps can you do? PO: Well, I did 18 this past summer. AD: Wow, that's great. Do you guys max out on stuff? PO: Yes, we do. AD: What is your bench max? PO: 385. AD: OK...and squat? PO: 555. AD: Man, that's like an offensive lineman! PO: We have a good group of defensive backs that really push each other. AD: What about your power clean? PO: 300. AD: Do you know what your vertical is? PO: I'd say close to 38". AD: What sorts of things are going into your decision on whether to declare ot not? PO: Well...ummm...I guess I'd really rather wait until after our bowl game to talk about any of that. AD: That's great. Can I call you the first of the year to finish this interview then? PO: Sure, that would be better for me anyway. AD: OK. Will do. Good luck, Paul. PO: Thank you. |
