 '08 Draft Review:

104  Beau Bell (104)LB UNLV

MLB thumper who should help slow down the run game. Will probably struggle in coverage to start off and has a lot to learn. Needs to hit the weights and work on coverage skills. Plays best when the play is in front of him and has the ability to diagnose plays quickly. Should see the field quickly as a rookie. Good value at this point in the draft. If he absorbs the schemes and assignments could see a significant amount of playing time in his rookie year in certain packages.

Pick grade: B

111 Martin Rucker (111)TE Missouri

Browns claim this is not a need pick. With Kellen Winslow on shaky knees and asking for a new contract this smells like an insurance pick. Rucker is in the mold of Winslow except not as good in all aspects. Rucker has an aversion to blocking, but he's a difficult matchup for a LB to cover and too big for a safety to cover. Should contribute immediately in certain situations. Decent value at this point but they probably should have addressed a bigger need.

Pick grade: C

190 Ahtyba Rubin (190)DT Iowa State

One of the few players that projects to a 3-4 NT. Has good body size and can anchor in the center of the line. Needs to improve his technique and shed blocks better. Needs to show a sense of urgency and desire. Should probably see some time in a rotation or in certain situations if Shaun Rogers cannot handle the nose. Good value at this spot.

Pick Grade: B

191 Paul Hubbard (191) WR Wisconsin

Big target who has had problems with injuries. Has the toughness to go across the middle, good size, and hands. Could develop into an eventual replacement for Joe Jurevicius. Similar styles. Doesn't have the explosion or burst to be anything more than a possession type receiver. Good value at this spot.

Pick grade: B

231 Alex Hall (231)LB St Augustine

A small school prospect who had a good all star game for the lower level players. Shows athleticism and is probably a practice squad candidate to start off unless he shows skills in STs. Good choice at this late slot in the draft.

Pick Grade: B

Summary:

Tough to grade this draft with these picks. Traded away all their early picks for Brady Quinn, Shaun Rogers and Cory Williams. Also traded a 2009 3rd to DAL to move up. Solid mid and late round picks that based on picks deserve a B-. However, it really is an incomplete draft.

Draft Grade: INC.
