Overview

Already one of college football's best players, Laurinaitis has little left to prove. He has led an Ohio State team to 2 straight BCS Championship games and has taken home a lot of personal hardware. A complete backer who can tackle, cover, and make plays, he could be one of the first defensive players taken in the 2009 NFL Draft.

Did well at the NFL Combine, but bettered his numbers at the Ohio State Pro Day where he ran 4.72/4.75 in the 40-yard dash, with a 4.18 short shuttle and 6.81 3-cone.

Strengths

Unparalleled instincts-finds a way to the ball and makes the play. Excellent form in wrap up and big hit tackles. Able to cover and has softer hands that you might think. Chooses correct lanes and does not waste time. Pad level is always where it needs to be. Smart, leader, has all the intangibles. Plenty of speed and tenacity. Best going straight ahead, but can chase too.

Weaknesses

Isn't a great athlete. Won't wow you on the track or in the weight room. Upper body strength needs improvement. May not be the strongest LB in the draft in terms of POA, but the fact that he has performed so well for so long at a high level, may have lulled some people to sleep as to how good he truly is.

Projection

One of the more complete overall players in college football, seems to have everything you would look for. Is a franchise linebacker in the mold of an AJ Hawk, and could have as much upside as the former Buckeye.

Impact tackling machine who makes plays, not just tackles. A little stiff and can get bulldogged, but has rare closing burst and perfect tackling form.

Come to the Chargers and fill the ILB spot.
